Lowrance X67C Settings
« on: Jan 11, 2009, 06:29 PM »
Just went out for the first time yesterday with my new lowrance. Read up on the basic tips here before heading out and overall it worked pretty well. I did find I was playing with the sensitivity a lot trying to get good clarity and seperation. A few basic questions I have - when turning up the noise rejection and surface clarity do you typically have to increase or decrease the sensitivity to get similar results? I have ping and chart speed at 100% and adjust the depth ranges manually. I found that when in 15 fow and deeper it had great clarity and a good bottom line and I would be running around 90% on the sensitivity. When in about 10' I had to turn down the sensitivity to about 75% to get a decent view and never could get a good clear view of the bottom 1-2' as it was all cluttered. Also played around with the colorline as well - do most of you just keep that at the 70% at all times? I've read the manual and played with that but not really sure what the changes do other than change the colors of the returns. I prefer the typical graph to the flasher display and only played with the flasher display for a few minutes.

I had my colorline set at 78-80% and set the sensitivity at 72-80% as well and never had a problem reading at any depths...............m ake sure you have the noise rejection and surface clarity on high..............do you use your machine in ice mode????????? and also do you use it in flasher or graph mode?????????????

I use it in graph mode and did set it to ice machine mode once in the flasher menu's. The lake I was fishing does have a very soft bottom so I am wondering if that is why it had trouble in the shallow water showing the bottom 2ft clearly. Do you always leave your surface clarity and noise rejection on high at all times? I didn't know if that would make it harder to mark the small fish or not so was trying it at low but that seemed to always produce more clutter on the screen.

From experience:

1.  Ping speed = HIGH

2.  Chart speed = HIGH

3.  Auto sensitivity=  OFF - run in manual mode around 80%- just so that your bait is a small solid black line

4.  Surface clarity = low

5.  Noise rejection = low  (only turn to med or high if getting interference from nearby machines)

6.  Run in split screen mode 4X mode

This is a good starting point and from experience I usually find these settings to be accurate in any lake I fish.......might have to tweek the sensitivity higher or lower for deeper or shallower water but overall these are the best settings.......

surface clarity HIGH
Noise Rejection HIGH
Leave the machine in ICE MODE
and use it in flasher mode.........
I am able to pick up entire schools of fish as well as the tiniest of baitfish no matter how deep of water I fish..............the biggest thing is with the X67C if the bottom is soft it will only show up yellow on the bottom if you are on a harder bottom it will show up red...............its the same thing if you find a hole that has structure in it the machine will pick up where the bottom is and actually show you that there is something in the hole as well

I run mine in graph mode, ping, chart speeds at 100%.  2x zoom, colorline at 75, surface clarity on low, noise off (unless someone close by)
and sensitivity at 88.  Soft bottom lakes will show up red, and I've found that the bottom is a touch deeper than the screen shows.  Meaning I can send my bait down, watch it disappear on the screen, and look down my hole and see it just off bottom- like 4-6 inches.
Sit in the house- or sit in the shanty, let's see, beer and crappies- I'm going fishing.

When in normal graph mode what view do most of you use? I used iceview the most. When changing the view is that essentially changing the colors and nothing else? I didn't see any difference in white background verse iceview other than the colors displayed. Also when people talk of interfearance from other units how close do they have to be? Could I have been picking up some interfearance from the guys 40yds away using a vex?

Most vex's put out 400 watts and your X67 is pumping out 800 watts and if anybody was getting interference it was the vex.........but at 40 yards I doubt if either of you would have, possible but not likely.........

That bottom clutter is showing you the hardness of the bottom. The more colors and thicker it is the harder the bottom. Jig just above the colors. Make sure your split between upper and lower limits is at 6 feet. That will zoom you in on the bottom, in flasher mode the whole arc of your flasher will be zoomed in on the bottom. Ice machine mode gives you only 3 colors, a single sensitivity slider and a battery readout. Ice machine setting is for flasher only.

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread, if so here goes. Any of you guys having trouble picking up larger baits / jigs ? When I use, say a micro jig tipped with a mousie and maybe a bb splitshot up a few inches, my x67c picks up the jig and the splitshot. But I have noticed if I go to a bigger jig tipped with a minnow it does not even register (in graph mode). I just purchased this unit and have not had much time to play with it. First time I used it I got a cool lesson though. Up till now I have been fishing just off bottom, The first time using this  in flasher mode I noticed marks about 2 feet up , so I reeled up a little above the marks and saw them move up to me. Needless to say I caught a bunch that I never would have known were there. This being my first ice electronics , I guess I will have to keep playing till I get the graph working for me

If it is a live shiner, it may be swimming outside the cone initially but it should show up. Bump up sensitivity a bit.

That's because your sensitivity is to high. Lower it, make zoom x 4 and it is spot on.
