Central Illinois
« on: Nov 20, 2008, 09:07 AM »
Hey fellas, time for another hardwater season!!!!! Hope this one is better than last. I hate being near the southern edge of the ice belt. Last year when we finally got good ice, I either put off going or had to work and then by that time the ice had melted just enough to be unsafe. Well, unsafe for me anyway---I'm 280 lbs. and I stupidly went out the season before last on 2 iches of ice and had a couple of close calls, almost falling through--all because I was too eager to go. Anyway, I know some of you guys are from central illinois, so I'll try and keep you updated on both the strip mine lakes in Knox and Fulton county in the reports section. Please post if you've been out.

Think light IC.

Us fat men have to stick together....except on thin ice.  ;D
In Illinois ice season lasts about 3 seconds, and then you are wet to the knees.

I`m 240 Lbs and all I have to say is I will not walk on anything less then 4 to 5 inches and drive on anything less then a foot of solid Ice. The last I heard there are no pretty Mermaids in these Lakes to save my life in the event I go through. Early and late Ice catch way to many with their guard down.  Have a safe season guys. so that we will be able to enjoy another the next.

I can't get out till the middle of this week. Think the ice will hold out till then, (be safe to walk on)?

Guessing 18, more if the snow pack counts.  Couple drifted areas the screw is all the way down before break thru.

BTW, J_P H lake is cranking out some dandy gills.  You ought to visit that old house.

Back officially on DL for bit. Flexerill wacking me as I type. Blades on hold cause about to become clumsy. But out this week.

I had 8-12" of good ice while out today.  The 8 was on a pond with lots of springs.  I am really careful on that one and the other was one of the strip pit lakes up here.  It had i am guessing 12 because I did not measure it like I did the first pond.
