Diehards?
« on: Dec 14, 2008, 09:34 AM »
With a minus 41*C windchill, I'm curious who the diehards are that went out this morning  ???
In years past, I would go out no matter what the conditions but this old body ain't what it used to be  :D
Glad I'm at work this weekend  :D

Not me.  Too cold.

In my opinion, getting out this early is bonus time anyway.  It's kind of like golfing in November.

Not just cold out there, dangerous cold. In my younger years I too would brave severe conditions in search of fur, fish and game. Just don't find punishing my body that enjoyable anymore. There will be better conditions shortly ;).

Didn't want a repeat of yesterdays adventure.Chased my shelter a good 4-600 yards down the creek before it blew onto the shoreline...........Lo ng freakin walk back to my spot.Bit spoiled with the roomyness in it though.Somehow the little Eskimo seems a wee bit cramped in comparison.Howling wind and poor driving visability is mainly what kept me in today.Long week ahead to boot.Have to work 5 days straight without my regular Weds. off........Sucks.

I was out for a bit, going again this afternoon. The shack is warm and the walleyes are biting.  I also used to work in this stuff and colder on drilling rigs so it doesn't bother me too much..............and its much better to be fishing in it rather than working in it  8),...................and I'm also a lot younger than you Blue  :D.

With the wind gusting, the water in my toilet is bouncing up and down, and it says "Stay home, you old coot!"  At a wind chill of -42 right now (noon), I think I'll hibernate for a few days.

The coldest I ever fished was in Cass Lake, MN 3 years ago.  -55F windchill.  I made the mistake of turning face first into the wind, my eyelids froze together when I blinked!

I wanted to head out to the shack today and get a rip roaring fire going today and fish for the afternoon...but damn it was cold! I went out to my shed to try and fire up the auger and I pulled and pulled and pulled and never got it to start. My new Eskimo Stingray, I was a bit disapointed in that, but maybe thats a sign its to cold today!

Any auger starting tips for those units? Their supposed to be easy to start, but I havn't been to impressed with it, when its running its fine but getting it to start has been a challenge.

it was cold out but comfortable this morning in the flip. -1 or -50 when you live in this climate you gotta gotta go out! Besides I waited 9 months for this day! The only bad thing was the wind made it hard to take a p*ss.

hey blue well me and my bro went out today headed to the big lake started off by buddy putting his big diesel in the ditch right at warner turn off comming from town nothing the jeep couldn't handle to pull him out.but that is pretty much where it ended man we drove up to the lake and there was no way you could see anything.100 yds from shore you would be lost.so we went to end of main to see if it's open    no tresspassing signs up everywhere and chained off???????so we went up the road a bit and ventured out by a cvouple other shack's.and the fishing started thank's to the new marcum vx-1 man flashers are freaking awesome it's like a game i brought my minnow up from 10 ft a good marking at 3 ft and nailed him first fish man it's totally a different world of fishing.in total we nailed 6 keepers 2 went back and lot's of saugers.already called in sick can't wait till tomorrow.flasher forever  :

Well, I'm back from this afternoons fish on LOTP, and finished filleting too.  3 of us went out and limited out on walleye (4 each).  Threw back some small ones and 2 big ones over slot, including a fat 27" I pulled out.  It was a good day on the lake despite the cold........tried not to leave the shack, and only fished one hole all afternoon.  Also didn't take one single pic either............too busy playing with fish on the flasher ;D there was a lot of fish down there.......flashers sure are sweet, I've used one for a few years now and find it hard to fish without one.

First trip of the year this morning. Had minor frost bite on my cheek in the 20 min it took to set the hut up. Colour came back, and so did the feeling, so all is well. Landed 10 fish total between two guys, biggest at 21". Lost a HOG right at the hole. Couldn't get his head turned in.... That hurt more than the cold ever could. Cold, but great first day on the ice. ;D

Sadly for me you were not the only witness to my little issue with the tent Saturday.Thankfully no pictures or video in existence to the best of my knowledge!Had i been out on the river i think it might have beat me home ;D ;DIt's my fault for not anchoring it down earlier before the wind picked up bigtime.Procrastinated bigtime figuring having the auger head lying on the skirting would do the trick!Stupid, stupid idea that was ::) ::) ::)Had i decided to pop it up again i would have wandered over and talked as the action was very very slow.Marked only one fish during the time i was there but it never hooked up.At least the S-cable on my FL-8 worked as advertised. The 2 of you certainly had quite the time setting up the Cube before finally getting it done.

ya it was my brother and his friend that were in the tent. no room for me inside so i fished in the wind and they sat around my propane heater. they had the tent set up by the time i got there so i didnt get to witness the hard time they had with it.
