PG area
« on: Dec 11, 2008, 02:50 PM »
Hey all,

I moved up from the island where I used to bass fish and have now gotten into trout fishing as I live in PG and have good trout lakes around. Now taking my next step in getting into ice fishing and have been reading up and stuff and was wondering which lakes are good to go already. I read that Eena is but have fished there and not a big fan of the smaller trout in there.

I know that with this cold snap coming that lots of lakes should be freezing up and am just looking to know what is out there as I cant wait to get out there for the first time.
There's always a bigger fish... and I'm going to get it!

Not sure if any of the medium/large lakes have iced over yet.  It is definitely cold enough, unfortunately the 50km/hour winds will negate that this weekend.
Just need one calm cold night, and ice will continue to build after that, regardless of the weather (within reason).
Ice is definitely developing slow this year due to warm weather throughout November.

Yeah cluculz lake freezing over would give a good indication about the larger lakes freezing around here and TGF might be able to give a better prognosis on that if he's out there this weekend. Or if any of the other guys get out this weekend. I'm gonna check out a few smaller lakes this weekend so i'll give you an idea on them later.

From Nanaimo. Did a lot of bass fishing while I lived there and miss it as the one lake I would mostly fish, the bass are getting bigger and bigger but dont mind the trout fishing as I can catch em over 14 inches up here in PG.

Actually never got around to fishing Spyder Lake. Fished lakes just in nanaimo. Fished Westwood lake mostly as it was only a minute away from where I lived and was able to go fishing pretty much 5 days a week at the very least. Not well known for bass but there are 24 inchers in there that no one knows cept me and my fishing buddies. Never see anyone else fishing bass there, just trolling for the puny little trout in there.

Thanks for the welcome.

Here are 2 smallies a friend and I pulled out of Quesnel Lake in Nanaimo several years ago. Always a decent place to fish for consistant decent sized smallies.

This large-mouth was pulled from a private lake in Abotsford I have access to.

Awesome bucket there remp.. Love the bass, I missed them for a bit as well but the ice fishing is a sickness that takes hold and dosnt let go till the ice is so thin it scares the crap out of you. Once you catch the secrets and the good places you will soon find out how to catch way more fish in the winter with plenty of those big walters.
Great pics thanx for sharing..

I used to live in the condos behind the Jinglepot pub and I fished Westwood a few times.
I went there to catch some trout and wound up hooking some nice smallies.
What a good time.
It drives me nuts that bass are getting spread around by dimwitts with buckets, but in the lakes where they are found they are pretty darned fun to catch.

Nice pics.

You lived like 4 blocks away from me then. I'm making a trip down there this summer with a bunch of ppl from PG and going to show them bass fishing. Try to get em some 20" smallies and some huge largemouth to show em what kind of fishing that is........ now I miss bass fishing...  :'(

Argh, you guys are killin' me! I used to fish Quennel and Shawnigan for trout and smallies. Great fun on big leach patterns!
