I believe that a tip is consider a pole or line in the water and would count as 1 of your 3.

In Indiana, you are allowed 3 lines, in any combination, but only 3 lines in the water at one time. This includes tip-ups.

Remember that your name and address must be on the tip-ups and that whereever you are on the ice you must be able to see your tip-up(s).

I've always wondered what you are supposed to do if you have tipups that you share with you buddys or in my case my wife?  If I put last name only on them when my wife is fishing, I would probably get busted if checked.  If I loaned a couple to a buddy, I would get busted.  So for now I use duct tape and have to mess with changing it and re-marking them several times a year.  Does anyone know?

Jeff thats the only way to do it, I would keep your name and your wifes on it, they will get you if you don't.

we usually have a tip up fest every year and alot of the guys that go don't own any. i have about 20 so just grab some duct tape or masking tape and a sharpie and i tape over my name on the flag and add who ever...
first, last and complete address.. less than a minute to "convert" one...why chance it!

i use duct tape as the flag and put guest names on it. you could also use those wire tags too.
