Calling in perch
« on: Dec 16, 2008, 08:18 AM »
Anyone ever try to "call in" the fish by making noise.  I have heard of banging things on the ice or banging your depthfinder on a rocky bottom but it won't work very well on mud.  I was fishing a murky lake for perch one time and tried this: tied a couple of spinner blades and a kastmaster onto the end of line.  Dropped it down and just started shaking it.  Pretty soon I started marking fish.  It seemed to work sometimes and then other times it didn't produce.  Any other ideas?

I just bounce my jig off the bottom an stir up the silt.  Or I drop broken eggsgells down the hole

If it is shallow water, use your spud to stir-up the silt. It will send mouthfulls of food into the water floating around and will attract all kinds of fish including predators on the prowl. Perch love the floaties stired up from the silt.

I had a guy tell me that he would have his kids put their faces in the hole and blow bubbles, LOL..he claims it brought the fish in! ::)  personally, I think that might be a little rough on the lips! Get lots of chap-stick :o

I have used a depth weight and bounced it hard on bottom, or in the mud and stir some stuff up. Always seems to attract something.

Ive found that simply drilling a new is often enough to draw a few in, i seem to always catch a perch or 2 somtimes more if i jig a hole right after drilling it, must be curious of where all the noise and vibrations were coming from

"Old Timers Trick"

Get small mesh bag -> Put rock in it -> Get 3-4 Alkyzeler tablets and wrap them in an Oatmeal paste ball and let harden -> Send down hole and pound the bottom a few times -> Oatmeal dissolves and Alky sends bubbles up and attracts fish! Alky is non-toxic!!!
they still make em    havent seen em in years    used to come in the glass bottle    great to feed the dump ducks with

I've used a tiny chubby darter before.  Perch will eat baby perch!  Also seemed to bring in some Northerns after a while too!

It just attracts fish becaule it looks like dieing baitfish.  beware if you use a flasher though, it clutters the screen until it settles
