Brainerd Tourney?
« on: Nov 22, 2008, 12:40 PM »
How is the Brainerd Jaycees Annual Extravaganza?  Sounds like a good time to me.  Have any of you ever been, won anything?  Probably a dumb question.  Thinking about going, how are the prizes?  How hard is it to get a good spot, with the pre drilled holes.  Just curious if its worth making the drive up from Iowa.  Thanks fellas

It is Huge, and they give away pickups and four wheelers! I know a few guys that have won buddy heaters and jig sticks, but none of the big prizes.

I think you draw a number for your hole, you get what you get.

I have never fished it, I avoid crowds. ;)

the brainerd jc tourney is one of the biggest ones in Minnesota period.......there are some other ones that are also quite large and give away trucks and wheelers as well...........there is the Ice Fishing Challenge as well as Iceapaloza in Forest Lake, MN which is another huge tourney

I found out on another site. Apparently one of the guys on there is one of the organizers. Claims that a couple of the top sponsors backed out due to the bad economy.

I'm fishing the Brainerd Jaycees contest for the first time this year, and staying for the weekend.  Any locals got any tips they'd be willing to give out?  I'm very familar with the Brainerd area, but never fish Gull during the winter.

Bummer about Forest Lake, that was always a fun one...

It can be fun if you're with some people, fished it the last few years, skipping this year. Basically you show up, find a hole and drop line 60ft and pray. The biggest eye of the tourny came out of a hole about 10 ft away from me last year >:( I just know he was coming for mine. Dress warm, bring beer and a preacher.
How many times do I gotta go through holes before I watch where I'm going? I am an amateur fisherman, but an all star minnow drowner!
