WEED'EZ
« on: Nov 23, 2008, 07:25 PM »
Anybody pick some up yet?  I've got 2 packs of them (8 5' lengths).  How are you guys going to rig them?  I've got a couple ideas, but haven't tried anything on them as of now.  I'm thinking of making a foam top (to prevent any hole freeze) for each one & using parachute cord mounted @ the top of them to adjust the depth with a big fender washer.  Anybody have anything rigged up with these yet, or even had them in water? (Other than the video Scott posted)

Thought about getting some, but a bit pricey.
Found some plastic christmas garland real cheap, about 8 ft. long and cost $2.99 per pack.
Will cut to 4 ft. lenght, rig a weight at the bottom and a hunk of foam from one of those pool noodles at the top with lanyard.
Also going to smear or spray some fish scent on it.
OH! Just came to me! -> tie in a few colorado spinners to simulate minnows hiding in the weed.
This should work real well!
Don't think the fish can tell the difference.

I got mine in the mail about a week after I ordered them. Looks like they should do the trick. I was thinking black foam on the top with tip up line to hang them from and a 1 once wieght on the bottom. Now all I need is some ice...

Mine took at least 3 ounces to sink to the bottom!

Yep, that's good to know, I was also only thinking of an ounce also.  Glad I started this, because I would have been ticked on that one!

Does anyone know if they work? My understanding was that decent sized fish came to the plants because there were smaller fish feeding on the benthic and other macroinvertabrates that feed and live in the real plants?

The trick is to get da little fishies to come in and take a look around.
Then ya hope something bigger comes by and seez 'em. ;D

I haven't used them...yet.
I have heard they are great around and area that you fish a lot or have a hard shed planted.
I overheard a story at Cabelas the other day where a guy had  a set out around his sled. A big northern came in and hit one of the smaller fish that he had on the line.
It ran out and tangled  into a bunch of the Weedz stems.
It ruined a lot of them and the guy didn't land the fish either.

Ya, I was definitly also thinking that if you snaged a barbed hook in the leaves, youd have to pull up the entire plant, rip out the hook, and reset. and if you did catch a fish with light 2lb line and you got all tangled up, youd be pulling quite the anchor in. I dont know, I figure if you ripped up some milfoil or another potamogeton species and tied it to a rock and dropped a whole bunch of them in an area, and some rooted, you could probably make a better weed bed.
