Ice-fishing tourney participants struggle with tough conditions

Not everyone was sitting in front of a television on Super Bowl Sunday. Members of two Indiana fishing Web sites instead chose to hold an ice fishing tournament at Summit Lake, near New Castle, Ind.
In what was dubbed the first annual "braggin rites" tournament, dozens of ice fishermen from
www.indianainfo.net and
www.iceshanty.com got together to fish Summit's 850 acres of ice. Summit was chosen for the tournament because of its growing popularity among ice fishermen in Central Indiana.
As dawn broke, the fishermen were greeted with clear skies and an associated high pressure ridge, which typically slows fish activity under the ice. Local fishermen were also reporting that thick ice had drastically slowed the bite. The combination led to a day of tough fishing and some good excuses.
