Are you adding tap water to the larger container? some times chemicals or the temperature difference can shock delicate fish.

Don't use tap water direct.
Put water in some kind of clean container then any product that neutralizes chlorine and metal such as copper.
Stuff used in aquariums.
You can buy said neutralizers at any pet store or Wall-Mart.
Wait a bit then the water should be safe to add.

Also make sure your water temps are WITHIN a couple of degrees. You can't take minnows that have been outside and dump into room temp water. Shock will occur.

Fill a bucket and let it sit out for 24 hrs, letting it sit will allow the chlorine and other chemicals to evaporate keep the bucket in the garage to regulate the temp. I used to have aquariums and this technique worked well and as stated in earlier posts you can get additives at a local pet store to speed up the process if need be.
