Where the gills bit'n after dark? I've never had any luck with them after sundown?

Do you fish right next to the lantern or a ways away from it?  I tried it last night and had ok success near the lantern.  Just not sure if I was too close.  Whats the best bait you've found at night?  Last night the only hits I got were on dead sticked minnows.  If I tried to jig at all, the fish would move on.

thnks all for replys we had a good day fishing for all of us  :thumbsup:  most all of the gills and sunnies were caught before dark.as far as bait we were using glow swillow  jigs tipped with spikes.for lighting we used a latern and an extra light shinning down the hole,seemed to work alright. and fished about 3' from the lights.
