I was fishing with a guy from the U.P and we were talking abot goldfish and he told me they have red minnows that they raise up there and use. And he said they work great. He was saying that they are a cross between two kinds of chubs but I dont know for sure.
I have never seen them down here though

I tried Rosies once. They are hard to come by. I caught a bass on one.

Rosies are a very hardy minnow. They will survive for over a week in a minnow bucket. I use them all the time for splake and have had great success. They out fish the blues 10 to 1.

They are not on the vhs list .So you could order them if you had a place to keep them alive for personal use .
No rules as of this new license year on them only goldfish . Just went thru the new rules booklet for this year.

I went to South Branch and a bait shop there had them. The guy threw half a dozen in for free for us to try. I've only seen them at pet stores before but they are pretty much just minnows.

I buy them at Petsmart and keep them in a seperate little tank in my fish tank.  The jumbo gills love the small ones just as much as my Oscars do.  When its time to go out it's self service in the tank then off to the lake.

A long time ago people also injected minnows with iodine. I don't remember what color they ended up with though. But the iodine seeping out also attracted fish like crazy. It was supposed to be especially effective for pike & walleye. Something I never tried but will now that you've jogged my memory on this one.  8)

We got one of the rosies in with the minnows we bought last weekend. Didn't know what it was til I read this thread. Of course, with my female logic, I KNEW it was a lucky minnow.  ;D
As soon as I dropped it down the hole, a crappie nailed it. It landed on the ice when I brought the fish up. So, I used it again and caught another one. I retrieved it from that fish's mouth and tried to use it again, but it was pretty much done by then. So I had to switch to the emeralds and they were equally successful. But I'm pretty sure the pink one started the feeding frenzy.  ::)  ;)

Bought some rosies once this year.  Hardy, feisty and slimy little buggers.  I caught multiple perch on the same live rosie.  They worked, but I still like shiners.
