Where i fish they seem to move off the bottoms of the dropoffs into the shalow spots. When the ice melts and were casting for them, theyre usually in 1' to 4' of water on te edges of bays, creekmouths, anywhere the water seems to be warmer.

Boy as of late I'm been getting them in the afternoon. Fish deeper as the sun goes down.  3:00 I'll get them big gals in 4' of water then at 5:00 I'll get them at 15'-20' til dark.

In my area early spring you often find them on sand bottom. Seems to make a big difference if you work your jig on and close to bottom. Kinda tap and rub bottom than lift 2-4 inches. I notice a major increase in takes.
