Me and a buddy finally had a decent day on the ice.......We started the morning out on clear, trying to get into some perch. We had no problem finding them......getting them to bite was another thing. I had 2 light bites right off the bat, and my buddy lost a 10 incher right at the hole. Right after that he caught a "keeper", and that was it. All of this happened in 4-6 fow. I moved out to a little deeper water and lost a nice walleye. After that we didn't have any more bites....could mark them, but no takers. We decided to pull up camp and head over to sylvan for some gills. We went to Gene Stratton Porter and started off in about 14 fow. When I first put my jig down the hole, I had a fish come screaming up and crush it. It was a keeper gill, but that was the only one we caught that deep. After about an hour of drilling holes and not marking many fish, we decided to head to another part of the lake. We moved up to 5 fow and started to drill some holes. After about 5 mins. of fishing up shallow we had 4 9" bluegills on the ice! After about 2 hrs., we had 15 pig gills and one walleye. If we were able to stay longer we could have done much better. The fish were active and very willing to bite. All my fish came on a purple (NO SLURPLE NEEDED!) jig with gold glitter tipped with spikes. I will be heading back up sometime after this storm passes to try to find some more of those hawg gills!!!!!
