I purchased a camera this past season.  I highly recommend a camera for fishing gills.  Some times you can't see the bite on some of the most sensitive rods, but you can see them on the camera.  The worst con is setting it up and picking it up.  Also you need a tripod or camera compass to keep the camera on your jig.    If you fish other species other than gills, I would recommend a flasher.

Use it more for Perch. Amazing how a Jumbo can take in a bait, hold it seemingly forever, then spit it out and even a super sensitive spring bobber won't move more than a micron. Think the camera attracts them as well. For 'gills it's more of a fine tuning tool here. Eye opening to notice that simply moving a couple of feet closer to weeds (or whatever) will sometimes double or triple your catch rate. Sometimes 'gills shallow are a bit leary of the camera so I generally pull it if even one backs off.

Good input there.
Another thing a camera does is it makes you be patient. In setting up and also you build patience in falsely setting the hook on a fish that just "lips" the bait and runs. They'll pull really hard sometimes without really taking your jig all the way in. They usually come back and then take the light bite that you can see but will never feel and then you have them.

Forget about next season. Buy one now, use it during late ice, and in the summer!

i have found  the most useful application of my aqua-vu is to use it in setting up my traps, checking weeds and structure and setting my bait just above the weed beds. have gone to areas where i thought there should be weeds only to find out there was only sand. I have used it to view catching fish. and that too has some use as well. you can visualize the fish biting. i was amazed at how light the fish bite sometimes, never even moving the spring bobber yet whole jig is in their mouth.. conversely , viewing the screen in bright sunlight can prove to be very difficult, and when viewing in the water column where there is no structure in view of the camera all you will see is gray...that is until something comes in viewing field of the camera. some people think that this gray zone means something is wrong with the camera.a\And keeping the camera in the exact position desired to keep your jig in view is very difficult. To remedy that i purchased a Mo-Pod and that works awesome....Still use my Vex 10 times more than the camera.

I always keep mine in the sled of my fish trap when I use it.  The fabric that covers it dries pretty quick though, but I dont wanna risk it.

The dang things are pretty heavy though, major drawbback. I love the vex because it's relativly light, and i have the genz pack that I dont worry about getting wet

I think it increases my catch rate by at least 50%. Like already said, a lot of the bites wouldn't even register on a spring tip bobber. Also before the bite you become able to tell if barely jigging the bait or leaving it perfectly still is the thing to do by watching the fish body action. Finally you can often avoid fish you don't want to catch either due to their small size or if they are out of season. The con's are seeing them come up then swim away and it's a little more difficult to add to all the other gear and move around once set up but not much more difficult. That said, I almost always take mine with me.
