I stopped by to buy bait on Wisconsin St. and the lady told me that they are getting bigger gills out of lake George this year.  She said that they are nice in the summer , but the ones this winter are much better.

Where can you park and get on ice at? I drove around there last winter looking for anyone on the ice and a place to park. Couldn't see anybody on, so ended up driving over to Valpo and fishing Loomis.

You can park near the boat ramp on the northside or at the Park on the southside and walk through the park. I've also parked at the high school when they aren't in session. Remember there is a current on this lake so be careful.

We talked to a regular customer who had his shanty out on the West side of Wisconsin Street last week.  He was killin the crappie and blue gill.  Nice sized.  Hard to believe, but it's true.  As for parking to get to ice, we (the bait shop) don't mind if you use our parking lot in the winter.  spring comes, that's another thing, but in winter, we don't mind you parking here to get on the ice.  The VERY middle is not frozen, but the rest of the lake is nice solid ice.  Other area reports:  Lots of Walleye on Flint lake on the medium sized roach minnows, of course Willow Slough doing good, but lots of people to contend with.

Bowman's landing was closed for about 15 to 20 years.  We've owned the place going on 17 years, and just as many people had never heard of Bowman's Landing as not, so Randy just decided to make it something easy that people could remember, such as Lake George ____ something.  So sorry about that, but we might have not legally been able to operate under someone else's prior name anyway.  We wouldn't want to be liable for anything under their name, ya know?

As far as reports, we've had 3 guys specifically fish Lake George this week and none have reported back anything, so I'm guessing not much luck.  NO ONE has returned to the site that we know for sure that the fish were coming from, West of the bridge......  If I didnt have to stay at the bait shop, I'd go out there myself and dig a hole.  I could use a few fish for supper.  Bill Paige calls us every Tuesday for a report.  This week I had to tell him I didnt really have any new news.......

As far as the ICE CONDITIONS, it must be safe.  There was a snowmobile out there day before yesterday, and he stopped several times (meaning he wasn't hydroplaning!!!).  I'm guessing that means it's fairly safe.  ........

There are nice fish in there however, I wouldn't eat any of them. There was a lot of raw sewage that ran into this lake 4 years. I know they have done extensive repairs to the water system but it takes years and years to clean-up, that is my 2 cents.

I hope you are posting about another Lake George!  If not you must be CRAZY.   :cookoo:  I agree the fish in the lake are clean enough to eat.  But if you drink the water, I highly recommend you go the the ER to get started on some antibiotics.  Also, "cleanest lake in thousands of miles," WHAT?  Anyway, I recommend fishing the lake, their are some nice crappie and bluegill to be caught.  The bass fishing has picked up also.

Hi Gang!
I wonder if any lakers got up stream into lake george.  The water level has sure been high enough a few weeks ago.  It would be cool accidently catching a laker in lake george thru the ice.  Any way tight lines and watch the current it can erode ice fast when it is sunny out.

Went to Lake George in Hobart today, got shunked!  Got my bait from Randy and I parked at the park on the southside and fished in front of the High School. Plenty of ice, just no fish! I've not been skunked many times on that lake, don't know what was up. Ended up going by Gander Mtn in Merrilville to check on some stuff. They have their ice fishing stuff on sale. Wish I could afford a gas auger!!
