permenant ice shanty
« on: Feb 11, 2008, 09:30 AM »
Does any one know whether or not ice shanties can be left over nite on NY waters ? I was thinking of towing one out and leaving it over night or maybe even spending the night in it. I worry that some one would get hurt running in to it in the middle of a white out.

Yes shantys are allowed, they just have to be off the ice I believe March 15. Put reflective tape on all four corners. I have 18" strips on all four sides of red and white reflective tape (really lights it up)..

Reflective tape and reflectors are good to have,Name and adress by the door, and try to keep it off of a main snowmoble trail,A shanty got wiped out lastweek on the sacanda by a sled doing probly over 80mph,it totally distroyed the shanty.

there is no main trail on the lake, unless your talking the main trail from bar to bar. every year this happens and its not the shanties fault

NOT saying it is the fishermans fault at all,but when theres a trail between 2 bars and they race from bar to bar it's a good idea to stay out of the main trail.

Why do you have to put your name on the guide?

Is there any regulation as to how big a permanent ice shanty can be?

not sure if there is a size limit on shanties. the bigger, the heavier and the more ice you need. i would say a safe size would be around 6'x10'.

Thanks, I guess as long as it doesn't fall through it can be any size.  Ours is 6x6.  Just thinking about making it a little bigger.
