I may be mistaken, but I believe that at the St. Albans meeting we were told that the temporary rules had been extended beyond the 19th and would be in effect until the permanenant rules were in place. The permanent rules won't be set before ice out. I can't remember the exact date, but I think that it was late March.

Hey lhousesoccer.
That would have been a great reply until you had to make that last smart a** comment on the end.
Why be so antagonistic?
Someone who works for the department should handle themselves with more class.

Thank you lhousesoccer for removing the comment.
I assumed that with your knowledge that you may work for the state.
If I was mistaken I apologize.

First off chill the hell out. I personally know a Biologist and we have talked alot about this crap shoot. Parts of the rules are good for the lake and others are just down right wrong. You tell me what the hell is wrong with trapping your own bait on the lake you are going to use it on anyways. Lets see same water same fish how is that wrong. They seem to think so. WHY. and for the meetings  they held are crap also. Do you really think that they wanted to sit there and listen to us pitch a fit. NO. How do you like to be lied to by the wardens  telling everyone no tickets have been handed out.   BULLCRAP. I know for a fact that they have. I fish the way i fish this law does not hurt me I don't do allot of live bait fishing anyways but I'm just saying they know what the rules will be and do you really think that them listening to us will change anything. The ONLY thing that may change is the time you can keep your bait for. From 48 hours to 5 days. I hope I'm wrong but lets be realistic here ....jim s

I sat in on a meeting held in montpelier and it was really good.  It definately got heated!  But the one thing I can say is that there were a lot of great points made by the local fisherman!!!  I didn't really say much, i just wanted to sit around and see what was going to be said.  One of the good points that was made was like jim s says, why cant i just throw the trap off my dock and use them on the same lake.  The biologist/wardens didn't really have much to say to a lot of the points the public was making.....the way i look at it,... it is what it is...it sucks soo much, especially for a guy like me who lives on the lake in the summer and uses minnows caught off shore. but we WILL NOT change anything on this topic....that is the overall message that i thought was portrayed at the meeting.

That is mostly what I'm trying to say you ask and ask questions and they don't have answers so why even have the meetings. Not only do they not want to talk about it but like I said before they down right lie to you. It would have been really funny (and I would have paid thousands of dollars to see this) when the warden was telling people about not giving out any tickets and the few people that have gotten the tickets were there. that's just my thoughts. but like you said it is what it is.....jim s

lhousesoccer, If you think that the board has that much control, look back to the antler restriction (first vote)they were way out of line from what the department wanted and got their butts handed to them by LCAR, I think they will tweek it some, but I bet not much.BB

hopfully over the years this law will change but until it does i guess we just have to suck it up. i on one hand live in mass. and have to drive 3 hours up to VT and somehow buy shiners before hand at a register bait dealer. the first weekend i went out on the ice i had to drive 1 hour both ways to get bait. in the end the bait cost about $20 with gas and not to mention all the waisted time. i just hope that the law on how long you can keep the bait is longer than 5 days in the future so we can keep out bait for the next weekend of fishing.

Right 5 days would be no good at all so you get your bait on Saturday and then have to dump it on tuesday. Hey time will tell right...jim s

I think it should be if it does'nt leave the lake it should be good until it is gone, we always had a bait box in the lake next to the shanty, I don't think that will happen though as the members I have talked with says the wardens would never know how many you had.Guilty until proven other wise.BB
