Mine is -30 with no warm up in day and being in the open with no hut. I can put on huge gloves and fish colder but that isn't much fun so if its not going to warm to -30 in day then I stay home and sharpen hooks or I will get the hut ready with heater, then head out.

I have been fishing in Manitoba and some don't seem to care about the temperature when they listen to a weather forecast. They care alot about the wind and which direction it is coming from. Once it was -27 there and the wind was riping accross the ice. Had to wear a face mask as anything exposed was numb (and I mean numb where you can't feel it) in 30 seconds. Thanks to some Manitobans that let me borrow a mask as I thought my fur hat done up could handle that. Sure it was OK where the hat was but not the small area in face that was exposed. I thought I was fairly tough and could stand cold temps but was no match for the Manitoban winds that I'm sure get all the prarie provinces.

You have more kahona's than me! Single digits and a Shanty with heat are mine.I can't even think what -30 would be like! You should get a POLAR BEAR OF THE YEAR AWARD.The things we do just to fish.

  • Just a second...I'll get the Calmer Downer
Yeah the wind is the show stopper for me as well.  Its easy to dress for cold but wind is just miserable.

There is no limit. Have to skim the hole every 30 sec's , but have yet to find a limit. Hope I never do.

  • Life's Tougher and Funner in Alaska;
I usually call it quits fishing outside in the open with no hut and minimal wind around -30*F, the line ices up pretty fast and so due the holes. Once my fingers and knees get cold, I'm usually ready to call it a day or maybe jump in the truck and warm up and if that helps then I'll get to it again for a while.

Right now it's to dang cold to be out :icefish: here. It has been close to -50* F  which is about the same in Celsius and maybe up to -35*F or so during the day when the sun is out. This has been going on since Sunday and it may warm up enough this weekend to get out and fish and do some more work to finish my shanty. All this cold air is coming from Russia and headed East into Canada.

Are you getting any of this stuff yet ???

So much for that "Global Warning" jibjab.

We did have some of the colder stuff when it was close to -30 last week but warmed up in last few days to near freezing day time highs.
Weather report says this weekend it will drop to around -25 but thats still fishable.

Stay warm fireman. I wouldn't be fishing in your temps. It really is hard to imagine fishing in those temps if you never have before. I have fished in -46 with slight wind in the open but even though I did it to say I did it....it wasn't that enjoyable.

We have had some brutal weather over the last 3 weeks, no ice fishing for me... :'( :'( :'(
One stretch of 10 days night time temps were -40 to -50 C with daytime highs of -35 to -40 C with out the wind. One morning it was -56 C with the wind (for you yanks that's -68.8 F) BRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
We're into our fourth week of cold, the forcast says highs of -30 or colder into next week. It's been 5 weeks since I have had the sled running or been out fishing and cabin fever is setting in. :wacko: :wacko: :wacko: :wacko: :wacko:
If the long term forcast is to be believed I might actually be able to get out next weekend, until then I will hibernate and build some new rods. ;D
I see in Tok it was -70 last night, not sure if that was with or without the wind though, like it matters when it's that cold!!!!! :woot: :woot:
