me too.  I posted one about fishing contest on Sacandaga.  It had 2 or 3 replies and was promptly removed.  I think this is kind of petty since I was not promoting the contest at all just inquiring if there were any.

I still don't get what the harm is to list contests.  Everyone loves to fish in them and this is a great mechanism to get the word out... oh well...

Furthermore, how is this different than listing the bait shops throughout NY.  To the best of my knowledge these guys did not pay to promote their names or locations.  How is listing contest any different?

Dont take it personally Dreams...I did as you did and mine was removed also.
But I will say this..the I-S Gods are pretty fair and there is a reason behind
their madness...since I have only been participating in this type of setting
for three days now...I have learned much of where the fish are biting
and where the ice is the thickest. Great place to learn as long as you
follow the rules... Happy Fishing!

It is still interesting to me that no one has been able to explain the logic behind not allowing the contest to be listed / shown yet the baitshop lists (which have more "profit" motive than any contest I've ever seen) are a common part of this board.  To me information is information, period.  Furthermore this should be the place to find out about all things ice fishing related, including contests, bait shops, gatherings, fishing hot spots, ice thickness, etc, etc.

Please help me understand how these are different.  Maybe I've spent one too many days on the ice and my brain has frozen.

As adkRoy stated your event will probably be posted, you just need to go through proper channels.

Go to Iceshanty main board and scroll down to the bottom.

Under Miscellaneous see Icefishing Events. Click it.

First line see Request Event to be posted.

Hope that helps.

The rules are pretty simple really...we endorse contests that contribute 100% of profits to charities or Pro Fishing/Hunting organizations.

This site was started to benefit Ice Fishers not profiteers.

Again - not to beat a dead walleye here but... how is listing bait shops (who are in business to profit) different than listing the contest.  Lets be fair here.  If you have guidelines / principles then stick to them, don't exercise them when convenient.  That's my only gripe.

For what it's worth, I think its best to let everyone know what contest are out there, period.  This alone promotes the sport and increases business for the people who are selling ice fishing supplies.  They in-turn will have more disposable income to "advertise" on sites like this one.  This becomes an upward spiral and those who know business know this principle well.

Furthermore, I'm not crazy about the mod's playing big brother and deleting posts at their discretion.  For instance. there are several posts currently listing information about contest (whether they are happening or not, etc) and they have not been removed.  Come on guys - be consistent.

Best regards -

David

I had the same thing happen to me. Later I found out that it has to be emailed to ice shanty and they then approve it. They are just trying to protect us on here so there are no scams happening to us on here.
Talk to your moderator on here he should be able help you out to who you have to email the history of the derby to.

hrleve1  you ARE beating a dead walleye.  move on.  this is a great site, you don't have to get on it if you don't like it. I have read very few complaints in all the years I've been on. most of them are from you on this one post

Bait shop listings were created for the convenience of our members. The information was provided by members, not bait shops. We are as consistent as we can be with a site this large.

Yes there are some threads asking about  derbies but, there has been no information advertising those tourneys. A fine line, but a line none the less.

As far as "big brother" is concerned, just be glad we're here or this site would turn into....well.....somet hing like the others.

RG -

A huge thank you goes out to you and the rest of the mods for maintaining order and if my previous posts have come across as complaining please accept my apologies.

When I posted the information about the ice fishing contest (which was subsequently removed) I had recently signed up it and was excited about the aspect of participating in a contest.  Please know I am in no way affiliated with the people running it, nor do I have an interest in promoting it at all.

What I did take exception with (thus the "big brother" comment) was that the topic was removed when I was only trying to share information - thus trying to benefit the sport of hard water fishing.

Thank you for your patience

David
