Hey Yooper, I didnt' check the links.. My husband is a yooper, (iron Mountain) we get up there every chance we get, and I love the fishin up there!! We went on the mining ponds near randville and caught alot of bluegill that had the dots you were talking about, my husband saw the dots and said they were parasites, but still filleted them scrubbed them and froze them.   .. So.... are u going to keep em and eat em? He thinks they will be fine. Have you fished Lake Antoine?? doing any good up there?

If anyone needs to "see it" to know what it looks like & whether it's ok to eat them.  this link may help:

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fish_diseases/neascus.html

I have eaten them with no ill effects & you don't even know they are there, if ya bread the fish. ;)

Go fish ! :D

For what it is worth, I soak my fish in salt water at least over night and almost all of the spots will be gone.  We have several lake that produce gills with these spots.
Most of the spots will be lying in the bottom of the bowl. :)

That is the first time I have seen that posted.  Makes sense.  A common way to treat parasites on freshwater aquarium fish is to give them a salt water dip.

yay idaho! i have never seen or heard of this parasite till now but we do have a weird moss-like parasite that lodges next to the eye of a fish. does anyone know what it is? i've seen it on bluegill and a few other fish but not really widespread.
