Questions on the Swedish Pimple?
« on: Jan 18, 2008, 10:52 PM »
I fish for Crappies on a lot of farm ponds in Iowa and have had my best luck with tear drops and waxies.  I've been reading a lot of the threads on hear and thought I would try some new stuff to see if I could up my catch.  I went out and bought some swedish pimples and was just wondering if you guys fish mostly with the treble that is on it or with the straight hook that comes with it?  As far as the presentation goes what has worked best for you?  Also what is your favorite bait to tip them with, if any at all?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

In clear water I've had success with the straight hook and the red flapper....annually I catch more fish on the Swede in open water than thru the ice.

Try some Hali jigs if you don't already.  They have a single hook on a chain below the jig and are deadly on Crappie.

Straight hook with a waxworm and both flappers. They work great on bass also.

straight hook with either minnows or spikes.  started placing a dropper hook on it this year haven't fished enough to have an opinion.  using the hali dropper chains you can buy.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the replys!  I've been experimenting with every setup you guys recommended and have come up with a few that I'll be keeping.  Seems that with the trebles it is better to fish with waxies or spikes.  If they want minnows that day I switch it up and go with a good straight hook.  Seems like I don't get the minnow stolen as much with just the straight on.  As for the flappers, well, I've had my best luck so far with the yellow.  There was one night out of five though that they only wanted it if it had both yellow and red on.  Again thanks to all that helped me out.  Hopefully I can return the favor someday.

The way I use my Swedish Pimple is with the red flapper and a snelled salmon egg hook as a trailer. Just take the snelled hook and put the hook through the ring on the trebble hook and then put the loop over the hook and pull it tight. Put a small meal worm on one of the trebbles and the trailer hook. I catch more fish on the trailer hook that on the trebble (go figure).
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

I like to take the extra flapper and put it on a panfish jig rod so it slides up and down the line. When you jig up and then the jig falls the flapper wiggles down slowly .The gills higher in the water column follow it right down to the buisness end  :)
