Meredith Derby
« on: Feb 03, 2009, 10:05 AM »
Anybody heading up this weekend?...   My first time.  Wondering if the harbor will be way too crowded, or should I venture away.  Are the tagged Rainbows only stocked in the harbor, or do I have as good a chance catching one anywhere else?  Ant advice will be appreciated.

Bait?       Smel or Shiners?

The trout were stocked in Meredith Bay, Alton Bay, Center Harbor and Wolfboro.
Because the trout were stocked some time ago, they will have spread out significantly.
Meredith Bay and Center Harbor will naturally see more people than other areas, mainly because it's closer to the Derby Headquarters in Meredith.

I go to center harbor every year. I went to Meredith years ago but i find it to cramped and noisy with all the ATVs etc. Center harbor is busy but not as much traffic were i fish. GOOD LUCK

Hey fellow masshole here....This will be my 5th year heading up out of Pittsfield. Had the best luck a few years ago on Newfound lake. As for winni, derby HQ in Meredith is fun but never iced anything there, probably due to all the activity.  Think I'm going to fing a quiet spot this year,  maybe somewhere off of long island? Alton bay is also nice. I think a sled is needed to really isolate yourself. I will be on a quad and from what I hear will probably end up getting stuck on my way out and end up fishing wherever that may be...but a bad day on the ice beats a good day at work....good luck!

If we're lucky (those of us not set up in Meredith Bay, Center Harbor, or any of the high traffic areas) all the increased noise and vibrations from sleds, trucks and ATVs may help drive the trophy fish out to some of the more remote locations.

All I hope for is to catch some fish.
Something that can be entered in the derby would be great, but just catching is fine as well.
