New Genz stick???
« on: Dec 15, 2007, 08:57 PM »
I ust got a new Genz stick and am wondering how to affix the reel to the handle. The front reel seat id fixed and a place in it to align the reel but then theres a funky black piece of rubber material that almost looks like shrink tubing but in a larger size that the rear of the reels foot attaches to.Do you use a heat gun to shrink this plastic band or what is the correct way to put the reel onto the rod? Guess some black electrians tape would work OK too, thanks in advance. Pete

Go to Home Depot, Menards or another store of this type and ask for Tommy tape. It is a silicone tape that sticks to itself and leaves no residue. It is kind of spendy though.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

being a typical canadian I use hockey tape...it's meant to give a good grip and stand up in the cold...works great

I would think that it is shrink tape.  I always use electical tape on both ends of my reel and haven't had any problems.  PC

;D That funky piece of pliable plastic was actually heat shrink tubing ( never knew it came so large though!) I put it on the handle and used my heat gun to heat it up and in a few seconds, it was shrunk down to tighten the reels on the rod.Worked well.I did on my other  rod as was suggested before on using TOMMY TAPE.It was hard to find but it really neat stuff. Its like electricians tape but seals on itself but with no residue if you want to take it off. Thanks again guys for the help.

Duct tape and a 5lb weight, bottom of the lake.
These were the old genz rods I saw in action.
Hope they got better I see plenty of em on e-bay.

i just used electric tape on mine its works fine and it holds much better than the shrink tubing that comes with the rods

these rods are the new models and after using them when we had ice, they are nice rods for the money.Big guides, small handles and the tape works good at holding the reel on.I just bought 2 more-can NEVER have enough rods!!

electric tape

I use electric tape on all my rods.  Quick and easy and holds well.  Just make sure you buy a good brand like 3m.

Yes youre right-I  just bought 2 older model reels but NEW Silver Genz reels at a closeout a couple days ago and they' re not like the 2 I just got on my new Genz Stick. The new Gold ones are very smooth and have a large spool and find it helps eliminate line twisting.
