Help chose hand auger
« on: Jan 05, 2004, 11:05 PM »
I was thinking about getting the Strikemaster lazer, then I stumbled up the nills velocity and normark fin bore III. Now what really is the diff between the nils and the normark besides price. If it makes a difference I want a 6" auger.
 TIA Mike

The Normark folds up into a more compact unit then the Nils and is a pretty fast unit.

The Nils is a little more rigid in construction. I believe it cuts a little faster and the blades hold an edge a little longer.

I have both...

Normark Fin-Bore III 6"

Nils 8" (With power unit)

The Nils is ~46" without the handle and the Normark is ~32" folded.

The Nils it shall be. There is enough room in Jeep for it. Thanks for your help! I talked to Scott at Petersons outdoors today and they got them in stock. He also said that in the future I can upgrade to a power auger head that will be aviable.I tried to get a price out of him but I couldn't for the engine.

I'm not sure where you are from, but give Jim at Dattilios a call....802-862-5516. Jim should be able to give you a good price on both.

I forgot....You may want to add 2" for the cover. I'm not sure how tight you are on space.....I've heard an additional 2" can make a big difference. ;) ;D

I can fit a 53" hardshell guncase in so even with the cover on at 48" it should fit. She'll take another 5" :o . I'll give Jim a try today. Where is he at, I'm in central WI.

He is in VT, but he will ship it to you. If you have some place local you can pick it up, it might be cheaper then paying shipping. If you are ordering it online or mail order, Jim should be able to give you one of the lower prices. His a good guy to deal with and stands behind the products he sells. Plus...The Nils rep is about 5 minutes from the shop, so if there is ever an issue with the auger, he can take care of it for you.

Good luck and I'm sure you will be happy with it.

Bob
