Bad Fish bites
« on: Dec 10, 2007, 06:21 PM »
Who has been ripped apart by their catch? One time I ince got both of hands stuck in a pikes mouth, clamped shut....the fish did an alligator roll and I had to go w/ it. I was picking teeth out of my fingers for days! :nono:

I bet that was one dead fish, even if it was catch and release to begin with :)

never really been bit before. But did catch a bass on a crankbait one summer and while i was getting one hook out he flipped and drove the other one into the joint on my left trigger finger. stuck the barb in and everything.

I usually fish for panfish and use a 6in hole. I have hooked into several nice pike and muskey over the years. most of the time I jam my hand down the hole and grab them by the lip and yell to my buddies drill another hole. so I can get the fish up and get my jig back. So if you see a man with his face on the ice yelling just drill it's me with a nice pike. :o and yes they tear my hand up every time but I really hate giving up my best jig up to a fish as a lip piercing.

Ive had the gill cover problem, and also the pike clamp and roll!

heres another one to add to the list, fish throwing lures. I dropped this pike on the bottom of the boat and he was thrashing around and drove two trebles into my leg. I got the fish off and had to make some rips in my pants to get the lure out. Notice the lure in the pic

I've guided for a few years for trophy pike up north, and at the start of every season for the first couple weeks I usually get cut up a couple times pretty bad.  I've had more than a couple nasty ones.   But after a week or two of practice to get back into it, I can usually go a couple weeks to a month handling pike every day without any cuts at all, and then usually only minor ones.  I also don't care to wear gloves either, maybe one light wool glove on one hand thats it.

Like anyone who fishes for Pike, I been cut. By the way, what's in Pike spit that makes a cut hurt for a bloody week? Anyway, worst bite? I was 10 or 11 years old. Got into a big Bowfin. Thought I could pull down the bottom jaw like a bullhead (hey, they kinda look alike) and get my hook out...bad idea. That fish would NOT let go of my hand. Had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to punch a hole in it's head, then it let go.
Maybe I couldn't get it's mouth open because I was a scrawny little cus...but to this day I won't mess with a bowfin without a glove and some pliers.
And then there was the Northern that decided to latch onto my bare foot. No more barefoot Pike fishing.

Camo in a boat? Is that so the fish can't see you or were you hiding from the woman?

Been bitten by salmon before. I go to get the hook out and he chomps down on my thumb. They have sharp teeth too.
