I just bought a Frabil XL Twin, 2 person flip over portable.  I am looking to buy a heater that is safe to use
with me and my 5 year old son.  I also want to make sure we both stay warm.  Is the portable buddy big enough or do I need to spend the extra money and get the bigger Big Buddy??  Also wonderig about the Paulin PuP.  This seems like a good heater, but is it big enough at only 8000BTU??

Just a Buddy would be fine.  The Big Buddy on high will run you out of that shack, unless you want to be fishing in shorts, t-shirt and have your feet in a puddle.

I think 8K btu is alot of heat!  I have a Coleman ProCat and at 3Kbtu in my FTPro it is enough to keep it well above freezing but it won't achieve t-shirt temps.

I have a buddy and it is great unless you like fishing when the temp is in the negatives. I have had plenty of days where it just didn't cut it. I would go with the big buddy.  You can always turn it down or unzip the door if it gets too hot.  There isn't alot you can do to warm it up if you heater isn't cutting in.  Not to mention, the Big Buddy has the fan, so you can some what circulate the heat, rather than having it go straight up.

Personally I went with the Big buddy.   even if I was looking smaller Id still get the big buddy  great unit exceptional for ice fishing esp with the fan part    you can get a 6 volt battery cheap and the foolish thing ran 40 hrs on it    But!!!!! I do more than ice fish  and live in a very cold area and if the power goes I will have great heat for in the house.  camping  it has uses too   but for a emergency heat it is the best.   only propane portable heater approved for indoor use!
Just another thought for you in your decision making process

(PS I also have other backups for my house ( generator,  Solar battery bank connected on inverter.  supplies power to pellet furnace, coffee pot, 1 outlet, and to the TV satellite)     oh  and a outdoor light  Messes up the power company guy looking for the power interruption  lol
