The only time I really got PI$$ED off while ice fishing was when I was fishing with a couple of friends of mine and this "other guy" came along...if you want to know why...do a search on "hole stealers" of the post I did on Nov. 16th. 2006 (in The Grumpy Ol' Men shanty...page 2) cuz I'm not gonna sit here and type it all out again. But I was smokin' hot by days end ....WK

I usually keep fishing , drilling and setting up where I had intended like noone else was there. I totally ignore the party and may mumble to myself if an ignorant party sets up close.

What do you think of people who play loud music while on the ice?  I was out last year when a group of people came out, cranked the tunes and started slamming beer.  After a while, I drove towards them stopping 20 or 30 yards away because of a decent frost heave.  I politely pointed out that everyone on the lake was being forced to listen to their music and asked them to turn it down.

One of the guys did turn it down and I drove back to where I was fishing. 

As the beer continued to flow, these arseholes got braver and I could catch the odd bit of their conversation.  They were getting their courage up to crank the tunes again, and I did hear the odd nasty remark about "that %&*$# over there" (me).  If the fish were biting, the story might have ended differently, but since they weren't, I finally packed up and headed to a nearby lake for the rest of the afternoon.

I'm not into a confrontation with a bunch of drunks, but I'm not the kind of guy to call the cops either.

What would you have done?

I hate humpers. I'm not calling anybody out here, but I can say that we have a rather productive pike spot on a lake, and after posting pictures on here, we go from having nobody around us save the occasional perch fisherman, to having the whole bay covered with humpers. A few have even approached us saying that they recognized the spot from this site, and figured they would give it a try. Needless to say, thats why we color in our backgrounds. I don't mind if somebody from the site sends me a message, or gives me a call to go fishing together, I'd be more than happy to do that, I enjoy meeting people from here, I've met quite a few great people! But damn, don't just show up to our spot, and say yeah I saw it on the shanty, and figured I'd fish it..thats just messed up..

I would go over and make a piss ring all the way around his tipup, so that when he comes back to kneel down to retrieve it, he is not going to want to be there. I've also heard that a bit of salt sprinkled around the hole works well, will sink their tipup into the ice and re-freezes.....Just what i've heard of course

every year someone does this to me and the only times it really gets me going is when you are the only person ont he lake and someone decides to set up right on top of you. If its crowded its a different story. Or heres my favorite. you have one tip up thats been going off all day. so the person decides to put one of there tip ups 3 feet away from yours. That really gets me pissed off!! If someone asks if they can fish by me then i could care less. but when somone just sets up right on top of you and never says a word to you lets just say sometimes words start flying

I have no idea where you are talking about, but you did post the spot on this website.  The whole point of this website is to share information, so why are you surprised that people came to the spot?

It would be nice if it were just that easy. The problem is...most of the time they're just inconsiderate @$$holes and they could care less if you holler, complain, or do something rash like pi$$ing on their tip up....but in today's stick it to the next guy world that our liberals have created.... the guy would get out his cell and call the law and you would probably get arrested for "EXPOSING YOURSELF" and the puke that was being an inconsiderate jerk for fishing on top of you would have a good laugh while the law came and arrested you and took you off the ice while he fished your spot and probably out of the holes you drilled!!!!! Just like I said in an earlier post when NAD42 suggested punching someone in the mouth. The world ain't what it used to be folks. You are going to have to learn to to deal with it in another fashion. Unless you just don't care what the consequences may be....Personally....I would be polite and ask that they give you some "space" and if they ignore that...then I guess it's up to you how you deal with it. I know I've read in several publications, internet sites, etc. etc. that are geared toward helping people that are new to the ice fishing sport that they mention looking for areas where fishermen are congregated and setting up near them....the only problem is they don't mention "how near" so you may end up with an absolute greenhorn or just some inconsiderate jerk. 99.999% of the time we fish public waters, and there's no law that says someone has to stay a certain distance from you. All you can hope for is that you have considerate people out there with you or learn to deal with it and stay out of jail at the same time. Oh...by the way...the "Get out of jail free card" doesn't work...LOL.. ..WK

i would just like to hear the general ice fishing comunity's opinion on what actions if any should be taken when some stranger comes over and puts his tip ups like 10 feet from yours?, or how far is your limit?

That happens to me all the time i here people say "lets just go over by that guy"and they do even when im the only one on the ice .Sometimes i say a few things sometimes pack up and move to another spot or go home mad usually its out of towners.

I find that people who do that, have no idea how to catch fish anyway and they ussually move on if you dont educate them. When the fish bite good on tip-ups its hard to avoid some people have no manners. Quit your job and fish during the week! lol

If its in the summer and they pull up to close to my boat, I take my T shirt and pants off and fish in my thong. Not a pretty site.
