They are on most lakes. From what I have been hearing there is between 4"-7" on some. Lac Vieux Desert is totally closed now with 7" in Misery Bay from what I hear. On North Twin there is 4" with some "grey" ice so be careful. I know a guy who just got back from Catfish lake today and did well on the gills. He said there was 3-4" of good black ice there and most lakes he looked at.

Unfortunately they got around 5-8" of snow this weekend so that will insulate the lakes and slow down making ice, but it looks to be a high of 19 for the week so that will help.

I am going up tomorrow (Monday) for a 3-4 day business trip and will do some looking around while I am up there. My wife asked if the sled and buckets in the back of my truck were standard issue for a business trip - I said yes when it is in Vilas county. There is only so much work you can do during the day.

I will post again when I get back. I will be going up from Jan 27 to Feb 3rd for my annual  ice fishing trip with 5 buddies so I am to do as much recon as I can.

Anyone got any ice condition info on Southern Wisconsin Lakes like Yellowstone, Blackhawk lake, Govenerdodge, or the Miss. Back waters?  Any info is good.

I live in the Lakewood area, most of the lakes we have fished around here have 4+ inches of ice. The lakes I fish 20 minutes north of here have 6" already. But we have 6-7" of snow/slush on top which is making getting around pretty tough.

Been out everyday since last Wednesday. Lakes have been hit and miss, some lakes are absolutely smokin right now, while others (normally late starters anyway) have been the dead. Havent really found much in between, so if they arent eating dont be afraid to lake hop because they are eating somewhere. Walleye have been pretty cooperative, northern are coming fast and furious at times. Perch so-so, bluegills/crappies are starting to really pick up for us.

Well i guess, I answered my own question.  I just called up to those placese.  If anyone is curious... I have a southwest wisconsin Ice report, even though it seems like I am the only one from the SW.  Well anyways.  It seems as Black Hawk lake is darn near ready to go.  The whole lake is frozen over, but there is a lot of slush on the ice.  I guess there where guys out there this morning so it must be safe.  Govenordodge state park looks a little better also.  People have been out there fishing on about 3-4 inches of ice.  After this weekend we should be making some nice ice there.  Yellowstone Still has a little ways to go.  I think the shallows there are ok but the deeper areas still need some work.  Well there ya go.  After next week with all the cold coming with no snow, we will be out there with trucks im sure of it.

My step-son went to Blackhawk yesterday, 3-4 inches of ice. Fishing was reallly slow! 7 big gills over several hours. I had better luck up in Mauston on Saturday, brought home 24 gills (no monsters) but I was catching fish the entire time I was there, through back three for everyone I kept.

Any reports on the La Crosse area, (Lake Onalaska, Neshonik, Mississippi backwaters, etc.)  I am thinking about taking a day off work this week and heading out but I am pretty new to the area and havn't fished any of these lakes so I am a little leary of the ice.  I live in Sparta, what other lakes are around that might produce a bit or two.  Either panfish or northern/walley
