How much longer
« on: Dec 06, 2007, 12:16 PM »
Are you waiting?   My home pond (Stumpfield) has been locked up for about a week now.  Haven't seen anyone out checking the ice yet...I don't like to be the first, gone through too many times.  I want a good 4" before I'll venture out with my spud.

Just checked the extended forecast, gonna stay like this for the forseeable future...getting the itch in a bad way.

hey buddy, i fished stumpfield a few times during the open water months and there are some big bass in there and plenty of nice areas to fish. i am interested in getting out there this winter.......could you give me some help. where do you park and can you fish on the other side of the bridge? i know its a bit shallow on the other side of the bridge, but i bet it holds some decent pickeral and bass. do you ever fish in the river portion. any help would be great.
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

Hey jibbs, parking is a problem if the wardens close down the barway to the boat launch.  You can park at the barway and walk in, it isn't a long walk to the river part through the woods.  And I'll probably have run the snowmobile through there a few times to pack it down.  There is also a trail from the barway (actually an old road) to the canoe launch where lots of people access it in the winter, again, I'll have that packed down.  Some people park on Stumpfield road and take the trail down to the bridge as well.  There is some monster bass in there, and also a pretty decent panfish population.  Big-big blue gills and pumpkinseeds, and a good amount of crappie in the main part of the lake near Elm Brook park.  Right at the mouth of the river where it dumps into the main lake is a hot spot, as is the corner from the stumps heading to the T in the river.  Both are fairly deep for that lake, and you can chase flags all day.  The only problem with the T is the snowmobile traffic.

cool........i have an atv, so getting the stuff down there will not be a problem. maybe sometimes we can hook up and you can show me the ropes over there. in the summer months i love all that standing timber.....however it seems the launch is never open due to the bacteria in the water or even the high water we usually get. as for  parking i can go down to where i would launch my boat, but would have to stop at the gate and pull my stuff in......i do i have you correct? i do know where the canoe launch is, but can you park a car along side the road there? i am really looking forward to ice fish the place. thanks for help and be careful this weekend if you are going. i feel brave, but when i get out there i am always nervous early on. i checked out a few  places near sandown and we have about 3 inches. i walked out, but not to far considering i was by myself
