I bought a 30lb spider wire braid but it doesn't look right, looks thin, my buddy I think uses a dacron braid and it looked almost like a colored small string.

since it sounds like your fairly new to this, i suggest going to Dicks with a good ice fishing section. they'll have spools of thick dacron line that's easy to handle. spool each tip up till theres about an eigth of an inch left then put on a mono or floro leader, or steel if your after pike.

i'm sure they'll be more posts to help you out, good luck  ;)

I use a line we called "squidding" line. Light color easy to handle doesn't freeze too quickly...I don't know what it's called now, though.

Squid Line...(dacron?)....cheap and very strong...easy to handle and rewind after a catch...30lb good enough....its all about the leader after that..braided ice line or flouro...i use both....Karl
