Myself and two others flew into Rainbow 25 years ago, and fished for 4 or 5 days. It just so happens that the location where
the aircraft dropped us off was the hottest spot on the lake to catch fish. We boated 100's of Blueback trout. They are
very similar to brook trout, and hard to differentiate. The eating is the same.
Later the same years we hiked in from the drove our trucks up to Holbrook pond, and had to cross a 100 yd portage to
another Holbrook pond. I know one of them was Little Holbrook, but can't now remember which. You paddle across
the second, and there is a easy walking trail over to Rainbow. There are huge rocks on the shoreline to fish off. We
caught a bunch of fish there.
We also drove in another year, but it was a 4 1/2 mile trip and difficult. We had to go through large expanses of water which
was deep in places. (The jeep with us stalled out twice, once on the way in and again on the way out, in the deepest
place). Near the end of the trip in there are some hard climbs with the vehicles up rock ledges, and finally down the other
side to Rainbow. Surprising to us there were already 4 or 5 other vehicles in there.
Again we all caught fish, and got to see a bear pawing through a dump left by slob sportsman.
If you go in by plane you can take a canoe, but a better choice is to rent their aluminum boats that are there, and carry
a small motor with you.
