New To Omaha
« on: Oct 02, 2007, 12:55 PM »
Hello,

I just migrated down here from Rapid City, SD.  Just wondering how the ice fishing is around Omaha.  I'm like 2 minutes from Wehrspahn Lake.  I noticed there are several other small lakes around here.  Should be a fun winter if we get any decent Ice.

Kodiak
Try    Zorinsky Lake , It's 1,000 acres and has almost anything you can catch .
It's at 156th and F

You can also try Levi Carter Lake on Carter Lakeshore Drive . It's in the neighborhood of 500 acres and also has some good fishing .

You want to drive a little you can try Twin Lakes Recreation area west of Lincoln at the Plesantdale exit .
Good luck this season and safe ice .

when I lived in omaha I iced fished walnut creek reservoir and caught some really nice gills. however this was in 2000 and 2001 so not sure how it is now. several occasions i caught over a hundred gills and one day i had caught 27 over 9'' and 35 8''-9'' with 2 at 10 1/4''....dug that info out of a journal i kept back then.  I know, hard to believe that in city limits and i was as shocked as anybody.  I told not a soul and released every single one of them in holes i would drill bout hundred yards from where i was fishing. the thing is i didnt see hardly anybody else fishing nor with much success.  I didnt write down exactly where I was fishing tho.  I just remember it was on the west side and am thanking straight across from parking lot or ramp on the east side and think couple times i unloaded on the west side near where i was catching them. I had just got my aquavue and it was awesome there cuz the water was really clear.  from what i can recall i was in about 20' of water.  this was some of the funnest ice fishing i have ever done...using the vexilar and camera and fighting them bulls from 20' was an absolute blast.  was always going to go back after i moved back to western nebraska but like so many things...I never made time!  I would be curious how it is producing now.  Hope it works out for you and let me know ;)
