what age to start kids ice fishing

i have twins (boy/girl) and am wondering at what age to start them out on the ice. They are only 13 months old now. Looking for some ideas of when any dads/moms out there started their little ones out on the ice.

Had my daughter out when she was able to hold a rod. Of course she couldn't reel the fish in but, at least she caught hooked them

i started both my sons fishing as soon as they could hold the rod. ice fishing when 3-4 yo. what an awesome feeling to watch them catch perch faster than you can unhook and bait.. also really fun to hear a 4yo yell "FLAG" and race to beat you to the trap.....then tell you he's "got it" lol

Had my grandson on the ice at 3 months old !  and often since then!

Little UPSTATE was 3 yrs old on his first trip and he loves it just as much as i do if not more... We were driving around the other day and he spotted our crappie lake froze over he got more excited than @ christmas... he was screaming dad theres ICE lets go ice fishin thats the best words a son can say to his father. so the sooner the better man get them out there and youll be suprised ...

As soon as you can put them on safe ice and you can keep them comfortable and you can put them on a few fish .
Whats most important starting someone out is to keep them safe , comfortable and get them to the fish .
You wont always be able to put them on the fish but if they get cold it's all over .

thats most important. this was talked about last season, and someone said not to take them out until they can talk, to let you know if they are cold. if you have a hardside, it's not so bad. (mainehazmat ----- that is really cute). taking an infant out in the open, risking frostbite when they don't even know what's going on .... is stupid

Im 16, and when my grandpa took me boat fishing when i was 4 it really had a huge impact on me, and i've been fishing as much as i can ever since. My dad isnt a huge fisherman (he likes it, but not nearly as much as me), and he never went ice fishing. Just a few years ago i went icefishing with one of my friends who has been going since he was 5 with his dad. Man i wish i tried it before this, because it's really an amazing activity. So I would say as soon as possible, when its not super cold and the kids can walk. I wish my dad took me when i was younger.

Get them out there as soon as you can.  Go to a panfish lake and get them a ton of action. It won't be long before they are hooked for life!

hence, you have to pick days that are warmer and you need a lot of patients (it's a lot easier with more than one adult, so grandpa usually joins us), but it is more than worth it.

He is pretty wicked with a zebco 33 too.  I don't think he was quite 2 when he reeled in his first sunfish.

i have a 4 year old that loves the ice this will be his 2 nd year on the ice just keep the kids warm and hit pounds that produce fish even sun fish and small perch are a must to keep the kids intrest fish means fun long waits for cusk and lakers are fun but the littlle ones loose intrest and get a little restless
