Fishing Magazine for Kids ???
« on: Nov 05, 2007, 07:40 PM »

I thought I would get my 12yo grandson a subscription to a fishing mag for Christmas.  I've been doing google searches 'til my eyes are crossed and I can't find a fishing magazine geared toward kids or beginners.  We have already gotten Highlights subscriptions for a couple the younger ones and Ranger Rick for the 7yo.  We were thinking they might get a kick out of getting something in the mail every month.  I just can't seem to find anything for the oldest.

Any of you have any ideas?  I thought of In-Fisherman or F&S but I don't think he would read the articles that are geared toward adults.  If anyone wants to start a youth fishing magazine, I'll happily sign up as you first subscriber... ;)

My two favorites growing up were the Maine Fish and Wildlife magazine (I've got them back to the 60's) and Outdoor Life.  I kno wthey aren't childrens magazines but i was reading them when I was 12.

The Northwoods Sporting Journal is an awesome publication as well.

I hope you are able to find something to your liking.
Whenever someone caught a fish...my Uncle David always shouted..."THROW IT BACK TO IT"S MOTHER!!"  I can hear that echoing across the frozen lake now!

In-Fisherman might be a bit dry for a youngster, but I sure liked it! My Grandma Krotzer (God rest her soul) got me a subscription for my 11th birthday and I have read every issue cover to cover to this day! ;)

F+S can be a good one for a kid because it covers many outdoor activities. You never know what will intrest a child so it is a good idea to expose them to everthing outdoors. F+S also has projects and do-it-yourself mountain man stuff that kids just love. It also has allot of micro articles to keep their attention.

BASS YOUTH might be exactly what you are looking for.
Go to the Bassmasters web site and click on youth.  You can get him a BASS youth membership and it comes with Bassmaster Youth Magazine, etc. etc.

When I was that age and younger I found myself digging threw my dads end drawer of In-Fisherman magazines. He had a huge stack and I bet I went through each one 5 times.

What about your local state Fish & Game magazine

Yes I am!  If I could find a nice buck deer sometime soon, I'd get out in the boat for another go too.  But so far the deer just are not cooperating!
