Ugly Stik Ice ~SPL1100 2'6"
« on: Mar 10, 2007, 10:22 PM »
I'm new to the site. I mostly fish for panfish. Never been ice-fishing. I saw the Ugly Stik Ice Rods at Gander Mtn. a few weeks ago. I went there today to purchase three of them and was informed that all of their ice fishing gear was sent back.

Who is still selling them?

I like my uglyice stick but stay away from the reel.  It's been nothing but a headace for me.

Thx, I was gonna switch the reel with one that had a rear drag.

How do you like the rod: Is it like the other Uglys, almost unbreakable, does it have any sensitivity??

i like the ugly sticks one heck of a good rod.  purchase a 4'6 ultalight this year and didn't change the reel or line just left it as is right off the shelf.  my girls have been using it all summer and have had absouletly no problems.  only one fish broke the 4 pound test. they have caught countless bass crappie trout sunnies chubs suckers u name it they got it on an ugly.  the funny thing is the reel is only a one bearing reel.  i even use it from time to time for crappie(when there not with me of course) and have landed some big bass on it. all around good rod.  also have a 25th anniversary rod and reel with the cajun red line (6lb) and use that myself stock with no problems.... sensitivity is never an issue because the rod tip is extra sensitive.

You can put a spring bobber on the end of a pool cue and it will be sensitive! ;D

Uglys are good tough rods. They are not the best in sensitivity or action, but tough for sure. Check out a spring bobber for it, and you wont miss a pannie. ;) I hate to be negative, but skip the combo. Most ice combos have a nice rod with a complete piece of crap reel attached to it. Even the higher end manufacturers are guilty of this. Buy a rod you like and then go pick out a reel separately. There are allot of opinions on the boards about reels, but there are several inexpensive models that definitely make the grade.
