Was out there today and The bite was far from what it was the other day. I  got out there todat at 3:00 or like 3:20 by the time i was there and then baited for whitefish// The Perch bite wsa really hard as nothing was on the screen and we only caught maybe like 15 untill 5:00 ish when we left,... so... Im not discouraging anyone at all... We were in a Hut we didnt move around (which i would do if i wasnt in a hut  big disadvantage) aNYHOW I DID MANAGE TO SEE som huge arse jumbos kicking on the bottom one i thought was a whitefish till it came closer but by that time i was jigging for lakers 20 feet up...and by the time i switched lures       ... well you know how fishing goes..     anyhow   TIght lines all\!

Germ were you not in Cooks Bay? You lost me with the 20' up for Lakers.

We were out off the 8th today. a good 7" ice. Didn't make it out to Fox or Snake and hear the ice is thinner.

Been at Bear Pt all week off and on and tomorrow over to Black Forest ln. Back to work Fri Night. I hear some of the guys in Cooks are picking up the odd White while Perchin'.

The 20 feet up i ws talking about is the depth i came off the bottom... we were in about 42 fow Off of Oldhomestead ROAd (aka the pumphouse)  Which Is about 4o percent accross to the other side of the bay...  I usually work about 20 feet off the bottom.. ( at this spot) :>:> Only becasue Frank usually keeps his hut there and with the vexilar and using our own site we can see the Lakers swirling ROUND US  Anyhow hope this helped with the miscommunication!

Got you now Germ. I'm famlier with Pump house. Fished there a few times last year. Kind of new to Perchin and only because I need to know how to fish them for the CIFC. Fished the big boys all my life. Some of my questions may seem a little off at times. Maybe I'll hook up with you one day on the ice and get some pointers for ya.

Well not much to perchin... WEll I guess ..... It doesnt seem to be a hard art like per say brookies or  lakers or whities...  There are a few tricks i have picked up to get them to hit... When they are finicky that is...  THere is certain colors of lures i use also to... Or prefer...  THen there are times when You CAn use anything in your bag and the buggers just wont stay off... LOL But would be glad to teach you what works for me:>:> Though I'll be picking your brain on the lakers and whities During this lol!

We just got back from Simcoe last night and heres what we came up with.

Location: Roches Pt.   alot of dinks and 14 keepers 10 in. - 12 in.   next day we went to Sibbald Pt. and kept about 16.

Total
150-200 throwbacks
30 keepers

I still would give anything to be sitting on that lake right now even if I were just pulling up dinks, absolutley love it there.

I decided to turn back I was to weak and Didnt feel like Walking inc ircles for hours... Came back to where i knew I would find krusty dawg and TOni TO see there were still fishing for perch but just further out then before when i seen them days earlier.. I walked out to them to tell them my tale of Death lol... Fished for like Maybe a hour then left...i ws done Tired still sick now and still getting over the COugh fphlem and upper resperatory infection,.

Germ, sorry to hear about your weekend sounds like it was pretty bad. Those whiteouts were crazy, when we were coming back on from Roches Pt. we lost where at on the shore we came out from and had to double back to find it. I've never fished for whitefish before but have always wanted to. I'm just wondering what I have to do. I'm guessing deep waters and some stronger line but not sure about bait, technique, etc. so if ya could point me in the right direction via advice or a thread on here that I can read that would be great.

                         Thanks in advance, Jes.

Easy enough man Just depends on what your bringing out with you...
If you have a portable Hut or it isnt to windy then Use a TIp up... Set it with a 4 way spreader like 3-6 inches from the bottom WIth minnows on them..  (perch Minnows)     If the tip up goes up Set the hook faster then u can blink... Id use like 8-1o pound test Is all i ever use. (most TIp ups u buy will already have Line on it usually set at around 100 feet of line or so..) anyhow..  I like to also jig with a williams half and half nickle plated (gold and silver)
I have also used the Humpback Creepers or Meggs or what ever u want to call them (no sucess on it yet) though to its defence i usually get weary if it And switch to something i have had success on and Catch them with that,... i just need to stick it out casue ive seen these things Catch tons of fish... just not to my own yet lol...

As per location pretty easy really... WIllow beach You can park there...

Then follow the path out for like 1.5 miles? 2 miles?? Somewhere like that
If your walking should take you anywhere from 35-50 mins somewhere near there You will see the people out there and your somewhere in the range of 70-90 fow

Jigging for the whties just keep the williams like almost on the bottom... II use a sort of slowjig up... but with the hook just almost sitting on the bottom... and you dont need to bring it up very high

Ive seen lots of people just jig the crap out of their lures... But then threy are wondering why they have to gaff their whities to bring them out... (hmmm maybe casue they caught it thru the stomache)
Anyhow...  These are the techniqs i use and the location i catch them at... No big secrect to any of it lol
Good luck!

Germ,
Hope you are feeling better !  Saturday was crazy nasty out there with the snow and winds.  Tony and I ended up keeping 40 perch in the 8-9 inch range and caught another 100 or so "dinks".  The whitefish were darting in and out of camera view all day long.  Tony had one hooked for a short fight but it got off.  We had a great time up there as usual !  It was good seeing you and hopefully you start feeling better soon.  I doubt we will get up your way the rest of the ice season this year due to our work schedules. >:(  Plus Erie started to ice up really good and the walleye fishing will be good enough to keep us busy. The offer still stands for you and the wife to come down this spring/summer to run down those Erie eyes on my boat.  Take care and good luck the rest of the ice season !

According to theweathernetwork.com it should be around 5c or 41f and sunny on the 9th, light rain on the 10th.

If you go on the weather network, can type in any location and it will give you the weather for that area.theweathernetwork.com

Of course this changes all the time. Hope this helps.

We made another trip to Simcoe last Sunday (march 4th) aside from getting blown off the lake it produced enough for a good feed of Perch.  Action was steady until 3pm then just died off.  I am guessing its time to try a different section of the lake.  For many years we have fished Cooks bay area but for the past three years have noticed a large decline in the numbers of yellow belly perch.
I have been a lurker for a long time and finally decided to post rather than just read.  Looking forward to meeting some of you out on the ice.
Never a bad day fishing
