HT Polar Tip Up's ?
« on: Mar 10, 2007, 07:14 PM »
 Today I went ice fishing for the first time. I used HT Polar Tip Up's, I thought after watching their instructional video's that I was set to go. How wrong I was. Here is my question;

 There is a metal piece that slides toward the reel and it has a loop, what is it for?

 The above question will probably answer this question.

 How do you keep the line from spooling off the reel to keep your bait at the desired depth? ???

 Even though it was rough outside on Guffin Bay and I lost two baitfish on my tip ups all was not lost. I managed to catch a 8lb 15 oz pike from the shanty and about 50 perch. I will post my picture up in the picture gallery. :)

 Thanks in advance for your help.

your line should go from the spool, through the "metal loop" and down the hole. When the flag is set properly, the top of the metal rod rests against the flag and the bottom rests against the plastic nipple that is on the back side of the reel. When a fish tugs on the line, the nipple pushes against the bottom of the metal rod and the flag "wire" is pushed off the "ledge" by the top of the metal rod. The fish is then able to take line from the spool until you set the hook and pull the fish up.

your line runs through the loop as it comes off the spool  8)  if you are using live bait there should be a clip to hold that sliding loop in place so that the bait does not unspool more line on it's own.

your line comes off the spool and through the loop
your flag goes under either side of the bar at the top of the shaft
based on what release tension you want[the notched side is heavier]
this keeps the spool from spinning and your line from coming off the spool :tipup:

I USE THOSE LIL ht bobbers FOR LINE MARKERS....CLIP A WEIGHT ON YOUR HOOK. DROP IT DOWN TILL YOU HIT THE BTM.  BRING UP THE LINETO YOUR DESIRED DEPTH USUALY A FOOT TO 8" OFF BTM IS IDEAL..THEN ATTACH THE LIL HT BOBBER AT THE TOP BY HOLE ....SO WHEN YOU RE-BAIT OR LAND A FISH OR MISS ALOT LIKEME LOL . THE NEXT TIME THE LINE MARKER LIL BOBBER WILL INDICATE YOUR DEPTH SO YOU DONT HAVE TO FRIG AROUND AND GET COLD HANDS!!!
NOWBACK INTHE HUT FOR A WHISKEy   YOU'S!!!!
The Best TIME of my life was when I could disappear for DAYS on end, trolling the gutter on an epic bender, PAUSING ONLY for meals and the amount of time it took me to take money from my wallet and place it on the BAR!!!!! <br />[iii]D[/color]   I AM ALSO A RECREATIONAL SPECIALIST, best and Fastest, Boats, Mini Bikes, Coldest Beer and Fast chugger...ha!
