The Schroon Lake derby is on for March 3rd and 4th. Mail in entries are $10. 'till Feb. 24th and $12. after that.

Send a PRINTED list of entrants to: Bunny Surprenant, P. O Box 203, Schroon Lake, NY 12870. Mail in entries must be received by Feb. 26th. Mail in entries may be picked up at Flanagans Pub on Friday eve. and Saturday the 3rd, or at the clubhouse Saturday the 3rd. Last minute entries will also be available then at the clubhouse.

For further info or to confirm mail in entries call (518) 532-7685. Leave name and number if no answer.

I've fished this event for some years now and enjoy it very much. There are THREE catagories of fish this year, Trout, Salmon, and Northern Pike plus a cash prize for the heaviest Pickeral and Perch.

There are some other rules regarding VHS and such and YOU must make you and your party aware of them. Get copies at Flanagans Pub or theClubhouse before you get ticketed. Good luck to all.

Hey Chainsaw, I have also fished this contest for 10 or so years, great time!  Are we going to be able to bring smelt this year as long as it's certified?  Very concerned...
I'd rather be fishing...

Just found out smelt cannot be certified...they don't keep long enough to be tested for vhs.
For the contest, you can use dead smelt or smelt that originate from Schroon Lake.  Sad  :(

yeah I thought smelt were on the list :(. There are some in Schroon found little ones in the bellies of lakers I caught. Never heard of people jigging them up in great numbers but I guess if you rig all your tipups  then search for the smelt and just switch the bait out when you catch some its wouldn't be to bad.

You can jig them, I've done it before.  You need the utmost patience to find them.  Schroon Lake smelt are very small and fragile...most of what you catch die quick unless you are very gentle.  I will be jigging this contest for sure!  Good luck!

Are they cathing any fish. What would be a good depth to fish at.I'm going for lake trout and salmon and whatever else.

Bobvat rents shanty's, I don't know who else somebody else may know. I t looked like he rented them for $75, thats what the sign said but you never know his prices. Today I paid $7 for small suckers that had $10 sign on them and $5 for shiners that had $8 on them. I don't think you will b able to drive out this week. Lots of snow saw some snowmobiles getting through but the ATVs were getting bogged down. I was cutting through 12 inches at Eagle point last week and I didn't measure this week at the north end but some guy said 16 inches and that sounded about right. 1 laker today on a sucker about 20 feet down in about 45 feet of water.
