First Quinte Trip
« on: Feb 19, 2007, 12:10 PM »
Im taking a trip to quinte next weekend and havnt ever been there before. Im staying in Desoronto and plan on fishing south of Napanee off of Hay Bay North Shore Rd (huff rd to be exact). Does anyone have any other suggestons on where to fish? Am i in a decent spot? I herd gold was a good color along with silver and blue or silver and green.  Also, i've only fished for eyes on open water, why are the big fish from the lake up in the bay durring the winter? I know the reputatoin this place holds and want to convince myslef to keep goping back. ANY info would be a great help and appriciated even more, thanks!

I hear that last weekend the fish were hitting at the Narrows near the big bridge but let the locals be your guide as to where to go near there and where not to go due to the strong current.

Anyone fishing the Bay would tell you also to try to hit Pointe Anne.  Just look off there and you will see the gathering.

Both of these locations are further west than where you plan on fishing but you will do fine where you are planning to fish also.

Good luck

Why do the big fish hang around during the ice time.... probably because the spawn the rivers in the spring in the area and they are putting on the feedbay heavy right now to support the chore of spawning and producing healthy eggs.

I will be down there too... lets post a report when we get back next week.  Don't forget your digital camera for pictures.... oh year one other thing... the weather will be a lot warmer... that should help in a lot of ways.

Trout hunter: Read "Quinte" under your post. Huff road was slow this past weekend according to the locals, and parking can be a problem at times. Good luck ;)

I just read this on the Quinte forum from 1 of your fellow New Yorkers and he seemed to know what he was doing. You might try following his example and go to Big Bay and pound them like he did.

Silver sidewinder seems to be the weapon of choice.

We just got back from Quinte Monday.  We fished near big island  The ice is good, but this bay you have to always be careful.  People were driving SUVS around.  The bite is early morning or evening.  Jig very near the bottom, first six inches.  Pound the bottom to bring up clouds of mud occasionally with a green and silver spoon tipped with several minnows.  Fish where the locals are fishing.  It even helps to move around, rather than sit in a stationary hut.  Tight lines.   Jitterbug

We're headed back down on friday morning and staying until Wednesday morning. Quinte is the local spot for us and we're had a great season so far.
