Short Fish ???
« on: Feb 11, 2007, 06:50 AM »
Is it just me or are others seeing people taking short fish at the KING . Last weekend the guy had a 21" laker in the parking lot at veterans park. this week they where keeping 20" to 21" out on the ice. does not anyone read the Rule book!! or do we need to have E.C.O.s at all the parking areas checking everyone. And no I thought it was 21" is not a good answer.

If you have cell service give DEC a ring. Granted they are usually stretched pretty thin as far as man power but it can not hurt to try! Maybe if these people get caught and pay a fine for those fish. They might be more inclined to buy dinner at PriceChopper or fish a little harder for the legal sized fish

Don't even bother D.E.C unless it's Something really wrong going on, like when somebody is walking off the lake with 3 or4,  5 gal pails filled with perch, or worse.
Just tell those plicks what they really are to their face, and hope they don't wipe the parking lot with your ars.
If they do...then you can report them to the IS police for a good old NY style ars whoopin.  :flex:

The worst violation I have ever seen was at Mountain Pond in Franklin County. The artificial lures only, no ice fishing trout water. A family was camped out and had caught upwards of 50 brook trout, all with worms under bobbers and all from like 3 inches to 10 inches. They had them all on several stringers hung around their campsite like Christmas garland. I didn't report them, but I kind of regret it.

OMG much cheaper too go too the fish market and buy some trout, than facing a hefty fine, i caught many lakers today that where over 23" and only kept 1 witch where plenty for me.  That one was 25" Just blows my mind too see people do stupid crap like this, these jerks are the same one you see on trout streams after they have been stocked loading up there creels or vest with stockies and fishing the creeks out 3 days later.
Stop complaining do something about it.

Throw'em all back. Let them get BIG!

Fished the south end Saterday. 7 Lakers caught, 3 keepers. All were returned to the water, except 1 23" that my cousin caught. That was his first Lake Trout ever. Just a great day.
You'll find me over the deep water.

In reality, Lake George has too many lakers and really needs more fish harvested. Natural reproduction, especially in the South end, has greatly increased in recent years. Lake trout growth rates are decreasing, I've caught several skinny lakers in the 24-27" range. Also, the salmon fishing will not greatly improve with large numbers of lakers to compete with. The size limit will probably be reduced to 21" but not until 2010, because of the way our State legislature works.

BTW, this happens everywhere - no one will do something about it unless you take the initiative.  Give the guys a good solid guilt laden ribbing (let 'em know how low they've really stooped for a couple fish), inform the ECO's (take license plates), and set an example by not doing it yourself.......What's the number? 888-DEC-TIPS or something?

I have to agree with CaptJJ. Lake George has an over abundance of lakers now. I'd like to see them drop the size to 18" for a few years and let those guys keep those dinks, get them out before they start breeding. We have picked up some nice fatties in the past few years ;), but there are small ones on every square foot of the lake. I couldn't really care about the landlocks getting better, as far as I know they can't spawn in the lake, so I'd rather see them stock browns, rainbows(again) or walleyes. As far as reporting other people goes, I'd just give them a little crap and tell them you see the ECO's and rangers checking guys every weekend. 8)

its the people that abuse the fisheries like that that are the first ones complaining about how the fishin has gone down hill, saturday i was heading out on lake george  at 10 am and met up with a couple guys from vermont coming off, they had both limited out on perch and i assumed they were done for the day, not so, as i  was leaving i saw the same guys out there slamming the perch again, they must have came right back out after dropping there 100 combined fish in there turcks and commin out for another 100, it makes me think of the champlain walleye situation, everyone complains about how there are no walleyes anymore yet some of these same people tell me about how they used to paddle them in the spring time in south bay taking hundreds of large female walleyes that migrated down from the whole lake, and they did this everynight, just goes to show how only a few people can have such a drastic impact on a whole ecosystem
Can I go fishing? Unless it’s on Brant, I can’t.
