Petrie Island Outing

Well I got out for a few hours this afternoon in Walleye Bay at Petrie.

New gear in tow I was quickly set up and fishing after saying hello to a few other Hawk-Talkers that I met out there...sorry that I didn't remember your names guys.

Using my new Markum LX-5 was a real riot.  I was parked over deep water and yet I was able to watch my dangling jig using the amazing zoom feature on that flasher.

I was soon rewarded with two dink saugers followed by two more in about a pound and a half that I kept.  The action was dainty and fast.  I missed a few also.  I also put out a set line with two minnows and later in the day got another small sauger on it that I had to keep cause it swallowed the hook.  Oh well I am sure that they will be a great feed.

I left the ice at six because I lacked one item.  A light in the portable hut is a must at night.  I had a flashlight but not enough hands for that to work well.  I guess I will have to figure something out for light because I think I could have put a few more fish on the ice. 

I am amazed at how warm my portable hut and Mr. Buddy Header kept me out there today.  A lot of people had to leave at dark because it was almost unbearable with the wind. 

I will give it another try tomorrow.  Loving the new gear.   8)

Sorry that we didn't see each other today Tip-up.... I think you would have enjoyed the day.

I got out again today at Petrie.

It was a beautiful day and magic too.... I caught a dozen walleye and sauger.

I have never had a day like today on the ice.

Amazing.  Most of them were caught on minnows.... yesterday all they wanted was artificial.  Go Figure.

There will be some fillets for dinner tomorrow.  Funny... only our little area was producing fish.

The wildest thing about it is the biggest fish we see there.... was a male!   

So how big do the girls get and where are they?   

The big sauger in Yesterday's Sink shot was a female.. and full of roe 

How are you supposed to know that though? Oh well there are tons of sauger around there.
