Nice Shack!!!
That is the same hole layout I have in my 6x8.... instead of the benches I just use folding chairs. The problem I was having with my house was that when I put corner shelves in for the Vex, the other hole was hard to watch. This year I'm in the process of putting in 14"x48" troughs, with covers. That way I can drill 3 holes/ trough.... the one in the middle gets the vex. Will have to move my door to one end also.
I tried to cut weight also...... ripped my wall studs to 1"x1 1/2" actual size, notched and glued and screwed all connections. I took a 2" hole saw and cut plugs out of my runners, which were 5/4 6inch treated decking instead of 2x.
I used 1 1/2 insulation on the floor, walls and ceiling. I only have 2 windows in mine. I used steel for the exterior..... way too heavy, I should have used alum.
Great job on the photos and instructions!!
I enjoy build my own shacks, each one is always the perfect one, or at least better then the last!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Bob,
Looks good!  Like the little table on the outside, nice touch.  The lighter material is a must, I'm finding out!  We are using aluminum corrigated metal for the roof, which should cut down on the roof wieght.  The ceiling in the inside will have 1 inch contractor grade sheet insulation.  Gotta get busy this week, it's going down to -10 this Monday.  Thanks again and have fun with your new digs!  ;) -Jim

I like the touches Esox.  I built one this year using your plans and just put the door on last night, but I'm already looking for ways to tinker.  I used 1/4" plywood for wall and roof material and can see that it will probably only be one season before I turn that wood into a deer blind.  Lighter is better!! I liked the idea on the 6x8 shanty posting about using the Tuff R insulation board for the wall material, I think that has a lot of merit.  Anyway, good stuff in your site, the shack is great and all that is needed now is some hard water!!!

I appreciate the time and effort you put into your house and web page. Lots of good information to be shared by everyone.
Glad to see other hardside fishermen. Gotta love those comforts!! ;D ;)

Next summer I plan on getting a crank down frame. If I can get my daughters help with this Jam Cam (??) thingy.... will practice this ice season, whould like to post some pics on my project.

The little table is kinda slick for a lot of uses.

Still have another trough to put in and box in. I don't put out my hardside until after X-mas, so have some time.

What else are you thinking of adding to your shack??

Nunzio,
Thank you and you are welcome. I try to help others when I can, because others have helped me a lot as well.

The crank down frame is nice. I thought of adding one to mine, but I needed to get the siding redone this year. Maybe next year.

I'm going to be adding rod holders to the ceiling for storing rods when not in use. I'm also going to add 2 yo-yo reels (can order through Cabelas) over the 2 inside holes. I made the shelf so I could attach the reels to it and have  them centered over the holes. Most of the time there is only 2 of us in the shanty, so it would be nice to have a couple of extra lines in the water close to the shanty. On Lake Champlain we are allowed 15 lines each, so 13 tip-ups is plenty.

I'm working on my modified jet sled right now. I hope to "finish" it this weekend.

I hear ya on the helping of others.... besides it always comes around!!

The crank down is still in the planning stages.... I was fortunate in finding a builder who was willing to do some trading. Gotta love the barder system ;D ;D

I couldn't imagine having that many lines out :o :o It must keep you running on the ice.

I just got my table saw back so now I can rip the liners for inside my troughs...... finish that off and move the door, thats my weekend 8)

Nunzio,
Post some picture when you get your projects done. I'd really like to see them.

Yes...When the bite is hot, you can't keep up. I can think of worse problems. ;) ;D
