i am heading up to the great Lake Mille Lacs this weekend and i have read some post about common courtesy of drilling holes around some other shantys after a certain time frame. i have tried my hardest to leave at a time that i would let me be there by that time, lets say its 4pm is the time frame. and because of this being my 1st long getaway since my 8month old has been born and my work schedual i could not make it up there untill 7pm. what do i do ? i would be a little unhappy if some one drilled holes around me? not ragging mad but a little distured. do i
a: drill with the gas auger
b: use a hand auger
c: set up away from people knowing 1st time up there during ice bringing a 8x16 shanty.
d. waste 12 hours of fishing : and go on lake in the morning
please give me some advise.

If you are not drunk and obnoxious, roaring your pickups exhaust, turning the lake into swiss cheese with an old Jiffy, or setting up next to someone who is drunk and obnoxious, you will be just fine.
Some people think they own that lake, especially some of the locals. They all need to grow up.
Do your thing and be as considerate as you can, some people are bawl babies and there is nothing you can do about it.
As Hard Ice posted, its your lake too!

Last season there was a group of guys fishing next to us who had arrived about an hour after us..they drilled, set up and went about their business fishing with some friendly stories mixed in. Nice guys...throughout the rest of the day it was an annoying experience to say the very least....apparently these guys thought it was ok to walk out to OUR flags when one went up and give a shout as to what was happening before we got there. Friendly....fine if u want to walk out and check it out WITH us....we werent far away at all, certainly not far enough to justify this one guy to grab my tilt and turn it in the direction of the fish running!!! Had a few words with the guy in a respectable manner about proper fishind edicate and we went on fishing. But he definately crossed the line.
Now the MOST DISRESPECTFUL thing i have ever seen happened next. A guy we know was fishing around the corner (out of sight) and all of a sudden we started to hear a few cheers and jeers. Took a short stroll just far enough to use my binoculars to see what he had caught and it looked big...pike about 16 lbs. THESE SAME DISRESPECTFUL GUYS WHO WERE CROSSING THE LINE EARLIER LITERALLY PACKED UP ALL THEIR STUFF AFTER THEY SAW THAT FISH AND MOVED ON TOP OF THESE GUYS AROUND THE CORNER..DRILLING NEW HOLES ABOUT FIVE FEET AWAY FROM THE OTHER GUYS...AND KEPT DRILLING FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR AFTER THAT..
I felt bad for the guys who caught the pike....i hope i never see anyone be like that again...it can really ruin the day.....
what you are talking about is fine and no one should have a problem with it...just as long as everyone is respectful to everyone..good luck

I too get urked when someone shows up at the prime bite time and starts cutting hole but i get over it and sometimes the sound of the augar helps attract the fish. In short life happens and we all do not get the winter off to fish. Just be respectful of those around you. It is one thing to drill a few holes just don't crank the tunes and start whooping it up.
