Michigan Outdoor News will be at TUT Saturday taping for their broadcast. If you are going to be there be sure to wear your IceShanty gear and get in front of that camera!
I am going the second weekend with the kids...they want to do the polar swim. (go figure)
Anyway....I am scouting the ice today so I can go out locally Sunday.

I fished last year...but i was south of where TUT was...alot of sleds...but not enough to drive ya nuts...
Tommy check your directions, TUT is held on the south  shore so if you fished south of there you must have been up at the school in their aquarium. LOL

I talked to a state trooper from Houghton Lake at a birthday party today.  His daughter and my son were born 3 hours apart and our wives have known each other since childhood.  He was telling me a good half dozen snowmobiles had gone through the ice yesterday and some were still in the lake.  They were going to wait for the fire department to haul them out.

He also was telling me about the fireworks crew that was hired to launch the fireworks.  They had the mortars setup and when the crew went out to light them, almost the whole crew fell through the ice.  They had to call in the airboat to go out on the ice and get the live rounds off the lake.   :o

that is crazy with all this cold weather you would think houghton would have 5"-6" by now.  I would think this coming weekend should be in that range by then.  There is no warm-up in site on the 10 day forcast.

Not much going on. A few people on the ice, but not too far out.  Snowmobiles around the edge on South shore.  Six of us went to Backdoor Saloon for burgers about 12:30 Saturday.  Not crowded at all.  Only about six tables had customers.   Gotta feel bad for the business.  Hopefully this week is cold and we will have better conditions.

North shore, by our cottage saw very little activity.  Water and slush on top of pretty thin ice.  I did not venture out.  Really do not like the slush on the ice.  Hope it's a cold week with no additional snow.  My guess is if we get a good dump of snow we may be screwed.

Rick

Hey Rick we got about 5" of fresh snow total yesterday.  Ian said there was about 5 1/4" of ice this morn out in front of us. Going out this aft to try it.

Good Luck Mike.  I'd sure like a few more inches of ice, before taking the Quad out.  I have not been on a diet.  Temps in the ten day forcast are mid to high twenties for high and mid teens for lows.  That won't make much ice with this much snow on top.  Me thinks we're screwed!

I'll be up next weekend.  You working?
