Toronto Bass Pro Shop Price Hike on the Aqua-va DVR
« on: Jan 13, 2007, 08:52 PM »
I made the trip to the Toronto/Vaughn BPS this weekend in hopes of buying the Aquavu digital recorder for my aquavu camera...I got a bit of a surprise when I got there...they are selling the DVR for $239.99cdn

For those who have been looking at one of these, all American retailers sell this unit for $99 to $114US.....Cabela's, thornebros, you name it...Yet BPS sells them for $239cdn...

I expected a bit of a price hike as by ordering on line I would have to pay the shipping ($15) and the conversion...but a $139.99 price hike is ridiculous.

I was so amazed I had to ask the guy working the counter if there were two separate models, when he said no, i told him the on-line price...he shrugged and I left.

Placed my order from thornebros as soon as I got home....Same deal for the electronic pod, they are $99US but sold for $160 at the BPS.

Kind of makes me miss the old days of crossing the border with the big truck, do you know how much stuff you can put 86 inch sleeper with bunk beds?

I will buy in canada whenever I can and I expect a small price increase but that is crazy for a aqua-vu DVR. I would like to see what their cost is and the increase precentage they use. I do know for a fact that retail cost for some shimano products is cheaper in the states than the buyer cost in canada. I dont think this is all that encouraging to hear.

Icejunky,

where is this local shop located? I'd much rather support the little guys.

Thanks

The local shop is Quinte Outdoor sports in Belleville...they dont currently have any in stock, and the problem is Aqua-vu only sells them in packs of 6 and so until there is some ice they wont place an order for 6 units, for me to buy one.

I ended up calling up Thorne bros...$99 US in stock

Imagine a big American corprate chain not caring for it's consumers...

Buy from the small guys now before they are all gone.  I barely remember about 10-15 years ago when we used to have actual hardware stores in the GTA with actual people who could help you let alone speak English.  I am not a shop owner but it really disgusts me to see what these big chains have done to small local economy in the last few years. I'm as cheap as the next guy but I really think we are all shooting ourselves in the foot shopping at these places just to save a few bucks.

Sorry guys I'm not trying to be rude or preachy but I'd really hate to see my local bait shops go under.
