I have fresh water ice. Never even heard of salt ice. Seemslik I need to take a trip to NFLD.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Actually its very stabe and not that slippery. However, it doesn't freeze hard like fresh water ice.  There are times when the sea ice is thin in places and when you step on it you feel it sag under your feet.   Normally fresh ice will freeze vertically while sea ice freezes in horizontal layers and is very flexible.   Unfortunately it makes your auger rusty a lot quicker. :)  <><

went out smelting in exeter NH once    very scary this was a brackish tidal river and if you do not get off the ice in time there is a 15+ foot gap between shore and the ice due to the rising and falling tides.   I would like to do it again but i moved 500 miles away and there are many better fishing options here so i doubt i will be going back anytime soon ... unless of course NH has ice before us I may have to go back and visit...
