Fishing Advice
« on: Dec 20, 2006, 10:10 AM »
I'm new to ice fishing, actually new to the Fishing experience on a whole and such have only a limited tackle box and goodies. The guy who is showing me the ropes has a wide variety of stuff some old, some new and some hand made. I was wondering though what works best as I've seen loads of new gagdets in stores and i'm tempted to buy.

Go ahead and but all the gadgets. Then give them to your mentor to try out to make sure they will work for you. :)

Pending on what species you are targeting for. Under most circumstances, different species require different lures and equiptment. ie Going after Perch with a Pike rod, line, etc. My suggestion is to keep it to one or two species. This would eliminate a whole array of Rods, tackle, etc.
Next thing is to head to your local fishing store and speak to one of the qualified sales people. Tell them what you are after, how much you want to spend, etc. Another great thing is that you can also find out the lastest updates on various Lakes at the store. Forums such of this one has many that can be helpful when info is needed.
Another is to put a post that you are willing to split Gas, food, etc. There are always those that are looking for another to join them.
Good Luck and Merry X-Mas to all.

Terry! Terry! Terry! To much info for the young Grasshopper to digest all at once. Just tell him to buy the gadgets and let me ::), I mean his mentor experiment with to determine the best teaching methods to employ whilst young Grasshopper learns the secrets of fishing. >:D

Ah! Yes, but even though I will teach young Greasshopper everything he know's  ,

I will not teach young Grasshopper everything I know.

Now if I had his password I could give him the Avatar he is so deserving of.

Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and we will have to try to hook up in the new year on some ice that is located somewhere in the middle of the two of us!!!
