Swimbait - what kind? Hardbait or softbait?

Hardbait = sort of don't work, because they are not designed for vertical jigging.

Softbait = take your pick, pick your rig, pick your size, pick your weights, etc.,...

Berkley ripple shads are deadly for lake trout.  Use a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. jig head.  Drop to bottom and work your way up the water column.  Electronics help a lot.  Smelt, white, perch colors work. I am sure other colors or similar plastics would work also.

Have had luck jigging Storm WildEye Swim Shad for pike and burbot. @)

I like the 4" size. Most of the colors seemed to have worked, but usually favor, perch, chartreuse & white or firetiger colors.
Adding a bit of scent is a good idea.

For the pike I like to give it a jig and let it settle back a foot or so off the bottom, repeat until they show.
When jigging for the burbot I do a big jig and really let it hit the bottom hard until they show then twitches after that. ;)
