First ice trip?
« on: Nov 27, 2006, 01:00 PM »
When things FINALLY freeze up where will be your first trip on safe ice?

Usually a few of us either hit Mayfield or one of the Caroga lakes. Hopefully the King and a couple other bigger lakes will freeze this season ;).

I plan on taking a day off from work whenever we have safe ice.  I will post here to see if anyone wants to join me.

If the weatherman is right that will be within 2 weeks on smaller, sheltered lakes in the Adirondacks.  It looks like the water temperature is low enough for ice to form quickly, we just need some calm cold nights to get things started.

Sounds like the first lake with good ice is going to have some mighty scared fish >:D,
cause there is some serious ice fishin agression to be dealt with in the shanty (that includes myself)  :flex: :flex:.
But seriously, I will be on the first good trout lake that will hold my 230lb ars on top.

I need Ice,
Wellsy.

I will go to nearest lake with safe ice. That is normally Simco up in Ontario. Cooks Bay near Pefferlaw is good early, although small perch are the normal catch. But if Silver Lake is frozzen that is good too.

My biggest pond on the property of about 3/4's acre. It's crystal clear this year and I should be able to see every fish down there when it comes up to my bait while I sit nice and cozy in my pop up. I love sight fishing for fish! My avatar fish was out of this pond and there could be another that size in there or bigger!

Here it is:

And here are some fish I took out of it a couple of years ago:

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

I was thinking about taking a trip up North for a couple days once deer season ends.  Never been to the Adirondacks.  Hopefully Honeoye Lake will freeze before Christmas but I keep hearing the nast El Nino word in certain circles.

My parents are going to North Carolina for Christmas and that is not a trip I am going to make.  I was thinking about an ice fishing excursion up North if this is not froze down here.

Merry Christmas to me.  ;D

Yup 230lb, at least you know who to send out first cause if I make it out o.k you should be able to drive your truck on it.
Durant sounds like a good early trip- large tigers on the prowl up there, not much else though.

only two walleyes last night for me. Not much for baitfish schooling around and the creek flow was down so they cruised in and right back out. Hopefully some rain this week to bring things back together for me, or I will have to go elsewhere for the fat slobber Eyes.
I gotta go gas up the auger and clean it up my brother put it upsidedown and sideways so all the gas in it came out the exhuast  :%$#!:

I have a funny feeling that we might have enough ice this weekend to fish for crappies at that one little pond   Maybe not, but we'll see and I'll bring my vexilar and fishtrap just in case.  ;)

Holy crap!  Ice coming already?!  I just got my first order of jigs in from Jammin Jigs, and I am sooooo ready to hit some ice!!  (screw the deer hunting!)
